Taking Aislinn to meet Alexa had not been something that Julian had taken lightly. He had thought about it over and over again, but Alexa was doing so well. In fact, she was due to get out of hospital and into a house with her sister in the next week. So if he wanted to introduce them while having the safety of the hospital around him, now was the best time...

Julian had been waiting up for his father when Joe finally came home on Saturday morning at 6 am. Julian jumped off the sofa and ran to the door, which made Joe jump a foot and a half in the air, but he didn't scream, thankfully. "Jules! What are you doing up?"

Joe now went to work with all the enthusiasm of a man being led to his death. He was still good at the job, but he did his best to avoid speaking with people as much as he could, only leaving his office when he had to, and keeping the door shut at all times.

Joe was headed to his office when he heard the familiar sounds of his son singing in his bedroom. Joe smiled softly to himself, and he crossed the hallway where he could see Julian through the doorway. Julian was dancing around above Aislinn's crib, singing a Cher song in a voice that was convincingly authentic, though Cher's voice wasn't hard to reproduce when you were male, oddly enough.

The previous night had been wonderful and ghost-free. Damon and Julian had played with Aislinn together, before sharing a wonderful dinner. And after Aislinn had fallen asleep, there had been yet more sex. Julian was feeling quite empowered by the fact that this was the first time he'd taken care of Aislinn without adult supervision (not including being abducted...) and he was doing fine. Aislinn was happy. He could take care of his daughter. He knew exactly what to do, and he felt quite proud of himself.

Joe was doing a rather fine job at not panicking outwardly, or so he would say himself. Inside, he felt as if one false move might rip his soul right out and he didn't know if he would be able to get it back in there again. In the past year he had panicked about his son more times than he could count. He had been terrified of losing Julian for more days out of the year than he had known he wouldn't, and that was a harsh reality. He hadn't worried about losing Jordan. He had known she was always there. They had been married twenty years. She was always there. Her constant affection and support made it hard to believe that the day might come when she might not be there. Jordan was Joe's wife. His love. His partner. His everything.

Aislinn was coming home tomorrow. Tonight was Julian's last night without a daughter at home. A daughter. It still hadn't really sunk in. Julian adored his little sister and he adored Aislinn, but it was hard to remember that one was his sister and he had helped to create the other one, despite the crappy circumstances surrounding her conception. He was a gay, seventeen-year-old boy, with a daughter to look after.

Little Jaida Lucille Littleton had finally come home, and Julian could not have been more excited to welcome home his little sister. He had spent the entire afternoon bouncing around and Joe had to remind him that he was not allowed to bounce when he was holding Baby Lucy, or he'd harm her... Julian promised quite firmly that his bouncing was reserved for when he was not holding his baby sister.

The baby hadn't been born yet even though it had been well over 12 hours now. It was nearly time for Julian to show up as he'd made plans to stop by after school. And they were certainly nowhere near baby time yet. Jordan kept saying that the baby wanted to take her time and that they should be patient. But Joe could see that his wife's energy was fraying around the edges already. The contractions were painful and she'd been up since midnight and there didn't seem to be an end in sight anywhere on the horizon at all.

Julian went to find his parents, and he found them together as he usually did, reading the newspaper in the livingroom, so to speak. Jordan's legs here in Joe's lap, and he was massaging her feet as she read the headlines out loud. And then, as Joe was always a mature soul, he was adding the word 'pants' to them. So 'Authorities Find Clue in Cold Case' became 'Authorities find Clue in Cold Case in Their Pants'. Yes. Joe was to be commended on his youthful humour at the age of 43.
