Having had it confirmed by Johan, who understood the psychology of organised crime, Peter was now certain that the attack on Joe and Jordan Littleton had been a message to him. Nothing had come of the account numbers Joe had given to save Jordan. No one had been taken or killed. And if that had been their motive, Peter knew they wouldn't have rushed away the way they had.

Peter saw a lot of things in his life that other people didn't see. He saw demons and angels and werewolves. He saw illusions and evil priests and things even he wasn't sure if he believed. But one thing he thought he would never see, was his cousin Johan, speaking to his Uncle Wolfgang. He hadn't even known Wolfgang was in London. But as he passed a small cafe across from the park, he happened to glance in and there they were. It was like happening to catch a glimpse of the devil and God playing chess...

Alastair tried to spend time with his father every day. If he couldn't make it every day, he definitely made it every other day. He had learned from the death of his mother that if you didn't make the time to see people and then they were gone, you missed them and you felt more guilty than you would ever admit. With Werner, he had prior warning. His father was dying. Soon. Within the next few years, if they were lucky. Within the next few months if they weren't. Alastair tried so hard to be happy. And Klara helped, as did the almost daily visits. But sometimes it was hard. losing his mother and finding out he would lose his father all in one year was not an easy thing to deal with, nor was the world descending into terrible darkness. No wonder he went out ocasionally and got drunk out of his mind.

With Aly away taking care of David, Peter was left to care for Christina and sundry. They were staying in what was technically Thomas and Mary's new room, though Peter knew Thomas and Mary would never be upset that Christina was using the room to seek refuge from her shattered marriage. Peter felt terribly guilty even though he hadn't done anything, because David was his best friend outside of Thomas, and he hadn't known. David had been self-destructing and cheating on his wife, apparently for a long time, and Peter had been completely oblivious. And it had started before the tumour. Peter had no excuse. Christina didn't look like she blamed any of it on him, thankfully. Peter probably would have crumbled, had she said anything like 'how did you not know about this!?'

"You're a bastard." Peter informed the opened bottle of scotch that was resting on his desk. The bottle ignored his rather impassioned insult, and refused to admit what it had done. Or possibly, Peter was transferring his feelings about himself on to an inanimate object. Yes, it was most likely that. "You don't even taste nice." Peter said as he leaned down on the desk so he was looking up at the level of the liquid while he poked the bottle with his finger. The amber liquid inside danced at his touch and Peter let out a sigh, letting his head roll down so it was resting on the desk. "Stupid addictive bastard."

Johan was combing through the library in Klaus' old office, with Liz's permission of course. He was fascinated by all the law books that lined the walls. It was like they had a book for everything. "Hey look. Educational law..." He read out to Werner who, being a librarian, looked like he was in seventh heaven.

It wasn't beyond the realms of believability that Devon would come upon some resident of the Kempf Manor that she hadn't met yet. Sure, there were several branches of the family, each claiming a part of the manor as their own so they could continue living amoungst the only people they considered their equals. But it was happening less and less, so when she saw an unfamiliar man on the stairs, she slowed down to take a good look, then she winked and said, "Hey!" Just to be American in his general direction before she continued on.

The below conversation is in German.

Wolfgang Kempf sat behind his large rosewood desk, petting his black obsidian dragon carving in contemplation as if it was some sort of pet ready to pounce on anyone who interrupted his thought processes. No one ever did, however. They knew better. Most of the business of the day had been resolved. One matter was still left to discuss. Finally, Wolfgang spoke. "What about the situation in Little Moscow? I am eager to see this resolved." He tapped the desk with the fingers of his other hand, and he did not sound pleased that the situation hadn't been.

Peter had been on the phone trying to track down Saul in Rome...which was not an easy thing, even with Gavin and Rolf's help. He'd spent so much time immersed in his own frantic little world, that the knock at the door made him answer the phone and shout, "hello!?" into it before he realised he may be going slightly mad. And it was cold outside and he should let his visitor in.
