Time was, Deirdre hated it when Peter didn't include her in a raid against the Templar or a rescue mission. And then her girlfriend had gone on one and ended up dead. If Peter asked, Deirdre would go and help in a heartbeat, because she owed him. But now Peter didn't ask, and Deirdre was secretly glad. She had twins to think about, and they had already lost their other mother, before they had even been born. All they needed was to lose their biological mother. Then they would be left with Giles and god knew that was a train wreck waiting to happen.

Deirdre was sitting on the floor of the living room with her twins darting around the room while she watched them. They were nearly two now, and their personalities were absolutely showing through. Eiley was more reserved. She had a head of shockingly-red hair like her mother, and she loved to be read to. She would gaze at the pictures and babble to them while you read. Gabriel was Deirdre's little brown-haired exhibitionist. He hated wearing clothes, and he didn't seem to be afraid of anything. The moment he learned a word, he would yell it loudly and repeatedly until it no longer sounded like a real word. Deirdre loved the both of them so much, even if they reminded her that her life had not turned out like she had tried to so carefully shape it.

Deirdre was surrounded by place settings and tulle and random flowers. Victoria Lane looked like it had been the scene of an exploded wedding planner's office. Decorations were draped everywhere and there were dresses and tuxedos hung over doorways. It was a scene of mass confusion and finally, Deirdre had had enough.

Deirdre had been with Paula, explaining for hours about why boys did suck but pain didn't last forever. She wasn't sure she had gotten through, but she hoped it would eventually sink in. Mostly Paula had cried on her, poor thing. As she was leaving the hospital, Deirdre happened upon a familiar face who was leaving as well. "Flynny!" she cried, loping over to hug her best friend tightly. "Hi!"

The first Spectre gig had gone off a treat, and Deirdre and Spectre were lounging in her hotel room afterwards. "The twins are still on London time," Deirdre sighed, leaning against Spectre while he held Gabriel close. "They won't sleep, the little buggers." Deirdre was feeding Eiley, who seemed able to drink more than twice her own weight in milk at a time.

Flynn could have done it on the phone. He could have, but he didn't want to. Instead he bundled Deirdre, Quinn, and Deirdre's children into one of Deirdre's roomier cars from Kait's motorcade, and he drove overnight. He hadn't been too sure about the babies, but Deirdre had insisted. They were demons. And hence, pretty impervious to harm. Still, Deirdre had to care for them in a small space (though she had least had the back seat to herself when Quinn wasn't helping her), and they had to make about twenty stops for dirty diapers. They took an early morning Cairnryan - Larne ferry, and arrived in Whitehead at about ten in the morning, after stopping for some food. Flynn didn't trust his parents to offer them nourishment. After all, they had kicked him out of his home when he was sixteen and left him to scrounge for his existence for six years.

In the end, they had let Deirdre go through her labour in Renee's room, because until she was fully dialated, all she could really do was sit there and moan and cry and she seemed to do that a lot less when she was beside Renee. There was no shortage of people around them either, which helped. Flynn had come to be with them, and he and Quinn hovered almost constantly. Giles had shown up, and he had sat with them, palefaced with anticipation. Deirdre's mother and step-father were present and Paula had stopped in. A great deal of Littletons had come to say hi. Deirdre's band mates and house mates and tenents and employees...all had come to wish her well and be with her through the part where waiting was all that could be done.
