Deirdre had been with Paula, explaining for hours about why boys did suck but pain didn't last forever. She wasn't sure she had gotten through, but she hoped it would eventually sink in. Mostly Paula had cried on her, poor thing. As she was leaving the hospital, Deirdre happened upon a familiar face who was leaving as well. "Flynny!" she cried, loping over to hug her best friend tightly. "Hi!"

"Hey!" Flynn kissed her cheek and then he took her hand. "I was just visiting with Spectre. It's his birthday and Thomas was with Kat so he wanted someone to party with. Thomas is back now. Apparently he fell asleep in Peter's room because he was a bit emotionally exhausted. And I just realised you didn't ask what I was doing."

Deirdre grinned and she pulled him out the door of the hospital and into the night. "Always assume I'm interested anyway," she said with a grin. She loved it when Flynn motor mouthed. He only ever did it around four people and she was one of the lucky ones. "Are you headed home or can I steal you for baby snuggles?"

"Baby snuggles!" Flynn declared, and he let Deirdre lead him to her purple taxi for the short ride to her house.

Deirdre set up her best friend and her children in the kitchen and while she whipped up a quick meal, Flynn sat with the babies and he chattered away to them. Deirdre thought it was endearing. She loved the way he loved her children. When she plopped a plate of food down in front of him, he ignored it and continued to bounce Gabriel gently in his arms. "I'm going to teach you to play the bass which is the best instrument ever," he informed the tiny boy who simply waved his arms at Flynn's face.

Deirdre laughed and she brushed her fingers across Eiley's hair, mussing it slightly. Eiley was sitting quietly in her chair, watching the entire scene unfold in front of her. She was a very calm baby, for which Deirdre was glad. Gabriel was more outgoing, but Flynn had a way of captivating the little boy, like he hung on every word Flynn spoke, even if he had no idea what it meant.

"Give me my boy!" Deirdre demanded then, and Flynn reluctantly handed him over, only to have Deirdre perch herself in his lap where Gabriel had been. She pulled Eiley close and so the girl didn't feel left out and then she leaned up against Flynn's chest. "I was telling Paula all about how boys suck when you're a teenager and you first fall in love. I told her about when I was sixteen and this boy and I were flirting. I let him come around for a visit and we totally gave each other head on my dad's bed to piss him off." Deirdre ignored the look he gave her because she was discussing this in front of babies. They wouldn't remember anyway. "I thought we were in love and he blew me off after that. I was heartbroken. But I got better. I met Renee. And therein lies another heartbreak, but I was telling her it always gets better with time." She smiled sadly at Flynn. She was thinking of Kait.

"I can't believe someone did that to you..."

Deirdre turned and she kissed his temple. "I can't believe the stuff you've been though sometimes so honestly, I think I'm like...winning the disbelief here."

Flynn chuckled and then a throat cleared importantly behind them. Deirdre raised her head from Flynn's shoulder and she turned to see her boyfriend, immediately grinning because he was here. "Hi, Giles!" She felt Flynn shudder slightly, but a moment later, he turned and greeted Giles too.

Giles did not say hello back. "Deirdre," he said, sounding upset. "What is this!?"

"Dessert!" Deirdre said, not twigging to anything he was getting at.

"Y...you're in his lap." Apparently, to Giles, this was tantamount to betrayal.

"It's comfy," Deirdre said easily. Flynn, however, understood perfectly.

"Deirdre...I think you should get up." To Giles, he said, "nothing is going on here-"

"I am not talking to you," Giles informed Flynn quickly. "I am talking to my girlfriend. Deirdre, I want to know what this is."

Deirdre blinked and suddenly she was worried. She had never seen Giles angry before, but he looked angry now and she didn't understand why. She was Deirdre. She had been sitting on her best friend's lap. She also spent a lot of time sleeping in her best friend's bed and basically climbing all over him in various states of undress. There wasn't anything behind it. He was Flynn. "Giles, it's just Flynn." But she stood anyway, unsure as to why. She felt ridiculous and a little upset.

"I don't care who it is, you're in his lap! I saw you kiss him!"

"On the...on his face!" Deirdre protested. In her arms, Gabriel began to fuss and Flynn reached out to take him.

"Don't touch my son!" Giles demanded and he stepped forward and pulled Gabriel out of Flynn's arms. The little boy let out a scream and Deirdre had had enough then.

"MY SON IS NOT A FUCKING PAWN IN YOUR TESTOSTERONEY GAMES!" she yelled at Giles and then she held her arms out for him. She was not going to grab him away. It would upset the boy more. And when Giles had handed him back, looking at Deirdre with slight apprehension, Deirdre carried him to the basement stairs and yelled for Pierre. Pierre appeared and when he had taken both twins down to the nursery to play with Matthew, she started in.

"I don't know what your problem is, but Flynn is my best friend and I am not going to stop sitting on his lap or kissing his forehead for anything. It doesn't mean I am fucking him. He has a husband and no interest in me romantically. Right, Flynn?"

"Uh...right," Flynn said, though he sounded like he felt admitting that was somehow an insult. Deirdre didn't mind, she knew it was true. She knew Flynn's heart belonged to Quinn and a little bit to Tristan. The Best Friend love was different. No less strong, but different.

"You came into my house," Deirdre continued, "and you accused my best friend of...what...sleeping with me?"

"Well I don't know," Giles said, exasperated. "You slept with me when you were with Renee and Kait!"

Deirdre's face fell and all at once, her eyes darkened. She felt something dangerous inside her starting to build. Flynn noticed and he jumped to action.

"You have to get out of here," he said, pushing Giles towards the door.

"Fuck you, I want to deal with this!"

"NO!" Flynn, who was stronger, pushed Giles harder. "You have to go now!" He didn't even call Giles any of the names he absolutely had ready to call him. "You hurt her and I have to take care of it and when you realise what a mistake you made, you can call and see if she will let you apologise. For now, get the hell OUT!" And Flynn pushed Giles out of the house and locked the door behind him. Quickly, he returned to Deirdre who was gripping the kitchen table as if she blamed it for everything.

"Flynn-" she growled.

"I know." Flynn rushed to take her hands, not outwardly worried she would hurt him for a second. It helped her calm a little. Her eyes lightened. "Deirdre, everyone knows you didn't cheat on Renee and Kait. You had told them-"

"It doesn't matter," Deirdre whispered, and with those words, her eyes returned to their normal ice blue. Her anger diffused now that Flynn was the only one in the room with her. "Augh. I can't believe..." Deirdre sighed. She had just spent hours saying how not all boys sucked and then her boyfriend had shown up and acted like a grade A twat. "I thought he was different."

Flynn didn't say anything. He didn't like Giles, but he didn't want to make anything worse for Deirdre. For that she was grateful. "Whatever. Let's go get the babies?"

Flynn nodded and he kissed her hair. "I think that is a very good idea, Deirdre. You know I love you, right?"

Deirdre nodded and then she wrapped her arms around him. "Flynn? I don't care what any boys say, I will never stop sitting in your lap and kissing your cute little temples or sleeping in your bed even when I am not invited, because you...you mean more to me-" Deirdre sighed and she looked up at him. "You mean more to me than he does."

Flynn didn't gloat about that either, he simply smiled and brushed Deirdre's cheek with his thumb. "I love you, Deirdre. And I am very relieved to hear that. You, by the way, are always invited in my bed." And when he said that, it didn't sound in any way creepy. He was just awesome like that.d
