Deirdre had a habit of inserting herself into situations she wasn't always wanted, and she hardly ever realised this. It was like showing up in the foreground of a photo that was supposed to be of something else, unaware of anything behind her. All she knew was that Giles had their twins that day and that made Deirdre feel annoyed. Surely her friends should do all the could to make her not feel annoyed. Right?

OH HAI GUYS HAI! )

Flynn was back. Her marriage had fallen apart not four hours after it had started, but her Flynn was back and safe and that was all Deirdre cared about. All she could care about. She had spent the last month in bed at Jude's house, whining and miserable and she was sure Jude wanted to kill her. She had been reminding Jude at every opportunity that Jude had been right about her no-good husband and she had hoped that Jude's ego would let that be enough to keep Deirdre around.

So far, it had worked.

Deirdre had returned from Heidelberg and Flynn wanted to welcome his best friend home. He arrived at Victoria Lane and let himself in. He found her in the kitchen, feeding cereal to Gabriel. "Hi!" Flynn bounded in and he kissed Gabriel and then Deirdre on their heads. "Where's the redheaded bub?" he asked, taking a seat beside Deirdre.

Deirdre had been with Paula, explaining for hours about why boys did suck but pain didn't last forever. She wasn't sure she had gotten through, but she hoped it would eventually sink in. Mostly Paula had cried on her, poor thing. As she was leaving the hospital, Deirdre happened upon a familiar face who was leaving as well. "Flynny!" she cried, loping over to hug her best friend tightly. "Hi!"

Life, the way Flynn lived it now, was often hectic and full. Where once there had been emptiness and loneliness, now he was surrounded by people he loved and he considered himself exceedingly lucky. With those people, however, came responsibility. Flynn had a husband who was still recovering from a traumatic brain injury, though he was doing much better these days than he had been for months. There were his responsibilities to Spectre's band too. Considering the fact that Flynn had had to play Spectre's parts as well as his own while they had been writing the new album, Spectre had asked him to help out with the search for a replacement label as well. There was recording and there were phone calls and there was making sure Quinn was alright and there was working at the shelter he had helped to start. All of it meant that Flynn had had very little time to spend with his best friend. He missed her.

Deirdre had forgotten Kait's birthday. It was the first one since Kait's death in September, and Deirdre had forgotten because she was wrapped in her happy little cloud of bliss. Her relationship with Giles was going so well, and as Giles was the father of her children, that meant a lot to Deirdre. There was no doubt in Deirdre's mind, however, that it should not have meant that Deirdre would forget about the birthday of one Kaitlyn Sommersby.

"I'm sorry," Flynn said before Deirdre even had the chance to say hello. "Deirdre, I'm so sorry."

Canada was cold, Flynn decided. Terribly cold. They were in Toronto, resting before their gig the next day. It was raining heavily and temperatures weren't expected to rise over 10 degrees celcius. That was too cold for touristing. Flynn had insisted on staying in the hotel and not leaving the premisis except when he had to to smoke. He was very nearly influenced to quit as he stood outside, soaking wet, with the wind freezing his skin.

Deirdre wasn't always the world's most intuitive person around. She was a demon and sometimes she went too far with things and didn't notice, or didn't go far enough in trying to reassure people because she had trouble censoring herself or gauging their reactions. She could read when her friends were distressed, however, even in someone as non-expressive as Flynn.

Deirdre roomed with Flynn. This was not an option, it was a requirement. The rules had been lax while Quinn and Kait were touring with them, but Kait was dead and Quinn was in London. The rules were back and strictly enforced. Sure, it possibly would have made more sense to room Deirdre with Serenity and Flynn with Timothy, but Deirdre had never been someone who simply followed reason. Instead she rebelled against it.
