Serenity hadn't seen him follow her. She had been at Ben's, hearing all about Daria from Noah and receiving some fatherly affection. She wasn't aware that Jason had been watching the house. It hadn't occurred to her to worry about such a thing. Why would he go to such lengths? She didn't understand he had something inside of him which would make him go to those lengths. To her, he was just a boy who had treated her badly and nothing more.
When she left to go home, she took the tube, unaware she was being followed. She didn't feel strange or uneasy. She felt like some people might be looking at her, but that happened occasionally now. She usually didn't have people coming up to her, which she was glad for, but she got the occasional gawker who was obviously trying to work out if she was Spectre's Serenity or not. She usually ignored it in a disinterested way, simply because it was easier.
It wasn't until she was headed down the private drive her new home sat on that she felt she might not be alone. Her pace quickened, and by the time she reached the door, she had been running. She leaned against it, panting, cursing herself for forgetting to fish her keys out of her cluttered bag beforehand. Now she had to search for them, the darkening sky above her offering no help.
"Fuck," she hissed, digging and searching for the familiar feeling of the dismembered teddy bear which served as her key chain. "Why do I have so much shit in here!" She had been meaning to clean it out for months...
"Serenity."
Serenity froze. She would know that cold voice anywhere, even after three years. She didn't even have to turn around. But she didn't have to stand here and take it either. Jason was here. He was behind her. In her worst nightmares, she hadn't anticipated that he would find her here. This was her home. Instead of terror, it was anger which coiled in her stomach and she felt it begging to strike out at the boy who had once done everything he could to break her down.
She was not broken now.
"FUCK YOU!" she spun as she screamed. She grabbed a handful of whatever was in her bag and she threw it at his face as she ran from him around the house. He was blocking her from the busy main road. They were on a secluded property, effectively blocked off from the public view. She only hoped someone was home...
"HELP!" Her shoes slipped on the muddy ground, but she managed to maintain her balance as she ran. She had barely made it around the corner when she felt someone grab her by the hair. The scream she let out tore at her throat and the silence of the night shattered. She struggled and everything became a blur. Jason was scratching at her and pulling at her and he felt his hands grab at her and she was sure he was going to rape her here, three feet from safety. She screamed and screamed and then she heard someone else calling her name. Someone good.... Someone to save her.
A large black shape shot into view and then Jason was gone, cold patches on her skin where his hands had just been. She was standing there, alone, her shirt ripped and hanging from a thread, her skirt askew. She was shaking and cold and her purse was lying on the ground where she had dropped it, her dismembered teddy drowning in a puddle of muck.
Trying to keep from crying, and with all the sense in her head having been knocked out of her, she leaned down to pick up her scattered things. Tears made their way out of her eyes and down her cheeks as she fetched her personal belongings and shoved them back into her bag. And then her saviour came back into view.
He has wings.
Serenity looked up at him, and her mouth fell open. "R...Razvan?"
"You didn't tell me you dated a demon," he said, his tone derisive. "It's okay. I ran him into a tree."
Serenity was too numb to think about the wings and the Jason and demon. "A...tree? Is he-?"
"He'll be fine. I'll get him someplace he can't hurt anyone else. Shit, Serenity, is this the arsehole you told me about the other day? The one who hurt you?"
"Wings-" was all Serenity could get out.
"Right. I'll be off then. He won't bother you any more." With that, Razvan tipped his hat and then he helped Serenity into the house before leaving her to take care of Jason.
Alone, Serenity shook her head, refusing to believe what had just occurred was real. Razvan. Wings. Jason. Demon. Pain. Terror.
She burst into tears, which echoed across the gigantic house. "LEON!" she screamed for her friend. "LEON!" She didn't know if he was there. If he would come. She didn't care. Someone had to.
Oh god, she hoped.
