Peter had been busy confirming reservations for his anniversary the next day when Thomas pranced in his front door. Peter held his finger up to his best friend who mimed locking his lips and throwing away the key. "Seven thirty? Okay, thank you very much. Yes, we'll see you then." Peter hung up the phone and then he smiled. "They had to rearrange our dinner booking, but it's all worked out. How are you, Thomas?"

It was a rare occasion at the Kemp house. It was quiet.

Phone calls at two thirty in the morning were not unknown to Peter Kemp. They were rarely good news, however, and usually they involved someone needing to be saved from some kind of supernatural calamity. When Peter sleepily answered his phone, he did not expect his best friend to sound cheerful as he said, "Peter!"

Raiding the Templar hideout in the Xinjiang province of China ended up being far easier than any of them had expected. Thanks to the information from the Chinese branch of Dead Meat, as well as the information Jerome had ‘extracted’ from Dragonetti, the hideout had been remarkably easy to find. And when they had arrived, ready for a fight, they found the place empty.

It was a few minutes to midnight, and most of the family had gathered on the beach, their eyes towards the city. It was December, and the nights were cool, but Thomas remained in his swimming trunks, a black t-shirt on his upper half. He was standing beside his best friend, bare feet in the surf, staring out at the ocean.

We two have run about the slopes, and picked the daisies fine. But we’ve wandered many a weary foot, since auld lang syne. )

Peter and Thomas were bouncing on Peter's most recent purchase in the back yard. It was a gigantic trampoline surrounded by netting to protect Peter's children from catapulting themselves off of it and into a tree or the shed or the ground. Peter liked it because the padding which covered the springs was teal and purple, and when he bounced on it, there was a point where it felt like he might not come back down again. Especially when Thomas did a sneaky double bounce, which meant that when Peter came back down, the trampoline came up to meet his feet, vaulting Peter into the air where he usually let out an unmanly squeal and came back to the trampoline on all fours. "THOMAS!" he hissed when he landed. "Don't send me to the moon!"

Peter wanted to go home. He hated being in hospital, and he hadn't been home in a very long time. Abby had been called in to his room and when she arrived, she smiled companionably at him. "Peter, you wanted to talk to me?"

Peter heard commotion outside his cell, but he didn't bother to look up. Someone was outside, which meant he wasn't alone. When they came inside, it wouldn't be nice. His relief at not being the last person alive on the planet was always short lived when it was followed by yet more torment.

It anyone could heal a heart, little James Littleton could. Mary certainly didn't hurt either! After the harrowing experiences of Old Wildborough, being at home was more than a breath of fresh air, it was a gust of it.

Peter wasn't sure what he was going to do if Thomas got any worse. Thomas wouldn't even look at Peter now. And Peter understood it was because he was hungry and thirsty and if they stayed stuck in here it would get worse and worse. Thomas had had terrible nightmares of watching his husband and son suffer as he had suffered. Now he was locked in with Peter, having to watch Peter go through it.

Yep, totally platonic... )
