They were celebrating. The shelter was almost kind of close to almost opening, and Quinn and Eamon didn't need much to convince them to celebrate anyway. They had gone out for a nice lunch, Eamon's treat because he had been paid. Eamon was driving Quinn's slightly decrepit car, and Quinn was pleasantly drunk in the passenger seat, which turned out to be to his extreme benefit. It meant he was quite limp and relaxed on impact.

The Big Sleep )
Shopping with the parents was usually a passive exercise, considering Maree and Bob liked to spoil their boys, and when Quinn or Eamon insisted that they didn't need something, they were told to hush. It was best to simply 'hush' from the beginning. That didn't mean that Eamon and Quinn didn't go follow them around, just to make sure their parents didn't decide they needed a pool or a pony or something.

Quinn had gone to the airport to see a (very tired and disoriented) Flynn off for their European tour. He hadn't wanted to let go, but eventually it had to be done, and Quinn had loosened his grip so Flynn could join his bandmates in heading off to wow the world. Or at least the prog-loving denizens thereof.

Quinn and Flynn had absolutely no problems leaving London. Apparently they didn't care if you had an alert on your ID if you were getting out of dodge. Not that that was entirely their mission. They took the train for the forty minute ride to Quinn's parents house, despite the fact that a freight train had been attacked yesterday, the passenger trains were still running. Albeit, hesitantly with a lot of scared faces.

The thought that Quinn might have been drugged when he had committed such a vile betrayal gave Quinn something like hope. The feeling even overpowered the terror he felt at knowing he might have been used like that. He just wanted to be back with Flynn again. He wanted to be in Flynn's arms and he knew that he wouldn't have believed he was capable of doing anything that would possibly harm that or take it away. If this gave him an excuse...anything to make Flynn stay with him...he would take it. It was desperate and sad, but Quinn didn't care.

Flynn missed Tristan. It was obvious in pretty much everything he did. He was happy about Quinn being back, but it was bittersweet because he'd lost something in all of this too. But it wouldn't have been fair on Quinn to lose his lover just because he was attacked. It wouldn't have been fair on Flynn to stay with Tristan, always wishing the attack hadn't happened so he adn Quinn were together. It wouldn't have been fair on Tristan either. Not that this was. Flynn was just happy that it had happened now and not years down the line when he had been absolutely steady with someone. He had no idea what he would have done were that the case.

Flynn hadn't seen his own home since April. He'd been on tour, and ever since he'd returned from tour and his world had been shattered, he'd been running. Quinn was gone, and Flynn wanted to be gone too. But he wasn't. He was still here. If only Quinn had died, the answer would be easy. Flynn knew people would miss him if he left, but if Quinn was dead, Flynn wanted to be too. But Quinn was caught somewhere in between. And it wasn't until Flynn was lying in an alleyway after having had the crap beaten out of him by Hamish the Manwall, that he realised that he would see Quinn again. Quinn was in the middle, but he wasn't stuck there forever. He would die some day. And Flynn would die too. And on that day, they would once again be together. Reunited for the third and final time.

Quinn hadn't been expecting it. Not even a little. But his mother was in the same room with his Aunt Maree and his Uncle Bob for the first time in over ten years, and they were all fighting. Over him.

Eamon had arrived early enough in the morning, that he could escort Quinn to university. Flynn went along as well, and Eamon and Flynn entertained each other in the library (looking up headlines that were also double entendres) while Quinn gave his oral presentation. Once it was over, he met up with his brother and his boyfriend for lunch, grinning widely. "How'd it go!?" Eamon asked, pushing a stool out towards Quinn so he could sit.

Quinn had decided to wait until she had some more energy before speaking to his parents. Unfortunately by Monday afternoon, he had run out of excuses. His aunt and uncle had returned home, but Eamon had stayed behind and both he and Flynn had escorted Quinn to Uni and back to Flynn's house. They'd all had lunch together. And now there was nothing left to do, but call.

When the doctors had said the results would be back mid-morning, they hadn't been exaggerating. It was 10:00 AM on the dot when a doctor entered Quinn's room to find Flynn on the bed with his patient, as well as Quinn's parents and Eamon over to the side playing competitive crossword. "OH! It's 'Utopia'! Suck on that, Eamon!" Maree said to her son, and then she turned to face the doctor. "Erm...sorry."
