While having voices in his head was something Elijah was going to have to get used to, at least he wasn't dead. That was the phrase he kept repeating over and over when it seemed like this whole angel thing was just too much to deal with.

I could be dead. I would have been dead. I'm alive and this is the only reason-

The man he was told took up residence in his head seems kind enough, and given the fact that the man saved his life, Elijah was willing to do whatever the man wanted, within reason. It turned out what the man wanted more than anything is to go visit an ex-girlfriend now that he was no longer banging around inside his sister's brain. And that seemed more than fair enough to Eli.

He had been staying with the Kemps for the past week while he prepared to move back to London, but David knew the way to Siobhan's house by heart. When finally, blessedly they were left alone, Eli snuck out the back door and borrowed Peter's car. David swore up and down Peter wouldn't mind.

By the time he arrived at Siobhan's house, his palms were sweating which was a little unnerving because Elijah wasn't the one who was nervous here. "Cut it out, man," he said before he raised his hand and knocked.

Siobhan's evening had been spent with books spread out on her couch as she tried gather everything she needed for her assignment. Being a student once again had been a challenging change for Siobhan to get her head around to begin with, but now this was year two and it was all coming together finally.

Compare and Contrast, how familiar. Siobhan rubbed her eyes and put her tea back down on the coffee table, but before she could reach for her laptop there was a knock at the door.

She padded down the hallway and opened the door, chain-lock still on. The man there was unfamiliar but Siobhan gave him a small polite smile. "Hi," she said.

Siobhan frowned slowly, looking the stranger up and down and then meeting his eye. She could see no David there, just someone she didn't know. Was he telling her that David was in him now?

Instead of calling him a liar, Siobhan just said, "then tell me something only David knows."

Siobhan stared and then closed the door suddenly.

Then she pulled off the chain and opened the door widely, looking at David who wasn't David, but David who also wasn't Aly. She wanted to ask a lot of questions, but instead she said "I think you'd better come inside." This wasn't any sort of conversation to have on the front stoop.

"Yeah," Siobhan said once they were in the living room, looking over him again. "I imagine it's strange." Understatement. "But, uh, you don't hate me so I guess this is better than the last person he was in."

Was that the wrong thing to say? Did it make it sound too distant about this man? God, she'd already forgotten who he was. "God, I'm sorry, I've forgotten what you said your name was. Let's do this somewhat properly then. Hello," she told him, "I'm Siobhan. Would you like a drink? Because I'd really like a drink."

"I'll get the beers," Siobhan said, moving over to the fridge. "Uh, just shove my stuff aside on the couch?" At the fridge she pretended she couldn't find the beers for a moment, because it gave her just a few seconds to try and deal with this situation as it was unfolding around her.

Elijah. David not in Aly. David still dead but in someone new. David.

She turned around and, from her spot at the kitchen counter, looked at the stranger in her house. She wished she could see David in him, but as yet there was nothing familiar.

She believed him though. That would have to be a start.

Passing the beer to Elijah as she approached, Siobhan asked David, "what happened?"

"Lucky Elijah," Siobhan said quietly, considering his face, considering the two layers of men in her living room. (Was it lucky though? Did this Elijah see it that way?)

"I'm glad you're okay," she said, but then realised that it was unclear, added "David, I mean. I'm sorry, good that you're alive too, Elijah, but... David." She invested just his name with so much meaning. Hearing him speak, even in a voice that wasn't truly his own... it moved her. She recognised him in the words, if not the voice, if not the face, if not the bearing.

"Or whatever you might call it," Siobhan agreed, and then drank from a long time from her beer. "So do you know all about me then, Elijah?" was what she finally asked, feeling it strange that she knew nothing of him while he surely knew every detail of her life through David.
