The week after Zoe and Rachel had started to run together at lunchtimes, Rachel approached her as they were stripping off for showers.
“Do you want to come over to my place after school?” Rachel asked.
But Zoe was unsure of this. Zoe thought: I kind of just want to read my book. I don’t think I have the energy for you. Maybe if you hadn't asked when I was only wearing a towel. “I’m busy,” Zoe said.
“Oh,” Rachel said. Disappointed. Zoe thought it was the first recognisable expression she’d seen on the other girls face.
Zoe make an apologetic face and stepped into the cubicle.
