Noah had rarely felt such rage, but when his beloved Serenity told him her band's possible new label had said she needed to lose weight, he turned so red Serenity actually thought he was going to burst into flames. "Noah?" she asked worriedly, chewing on her lip. "Uh...are you alright there?"
"No!" Noah growled, and then he took a deep breath so he didn't die of suffocation. "Serena, I swear to Christ I will murder someone for saying that shit to you..."
"I don't think that will solve the problem, Darling. And it would get you arrested, which is worse than hospitalised. At least here you get sponge baths. There, you get soap on a rope."
Noah cringed and he shook his head. "Yeah...let's not go there. Still...fuck, Serenity. You...you know you're beautiful, right?"
Serenity shrugged. "I guess."
Noah's stomach contracted with worry and he licked his lips. "Serenity..." he reached out for her hand and she took it, their fingers intertwining. "You are beautiful and perfect and those people are wrong. Seriously. Do you want to look like me?" he asked, his tone dry. He knew he looked horrible and he was just happy he could finally choke food down. His starved body was rejoicing almost as much as Ben and Daria were. It was a serious health issue and not a matter of conforming to what society defined as beautiful. It was anything but beautiful.
"No," Serenity breathed, and she leaned forward, burying her face in his shoulder. "Noah, I never felt bad about how I looked before. Now I feel terrible and I hate it. I hate it."
"Serenity," Noah whispered, but he knew he couldn't really make this better. The world was what it was. He hated it, but that was the state of things. "Sweetheart, you are perfect. Please...please don't change. Don't hurt yourself over this. There's always an alternative. Something will come along, Ren."
Serenity growled into his shoulder and Noah smiled a fond smile. "I love you, Serenity."
"I love you too, Scarecrow," Serenity said into his shoulder. "I'm going to go get you something to eat and I am going to stuff my face too. Fuck the man, Noah! Fuck the man!"
"Yes! In not a homosexual way!" Noah cried and Serenity lifted her head to laugh at him.
"You're a dork," she informed him.
"I am," he acknowledged. "And I'm not changing that for anyone."
"Yeah," Serenity smiled softly. "Me neither."
"Perfect."
"No!" Noah growled, and then he took a deep breath so he didn't die of suffocation. "Serena, I swear to Christ I will murder someone for saying that shit to you..."
