A young girl entered Abby's office and for a moment when she looked up, Abby didn't recognise her. Then the full memory of this girl's fragile face, twisted in pain and fear, slammed into her. It wasn't her memory, it was Thomas'. Still, she shuddered against the impact, despite the fact that the girl didn't look scared or pained now. Now she was smiling in a little, self-satisfied way that made Abby genuinely uneasy. She had a feeling she was about to be asked something she didn't want to know about. "Paige?"
The smile slid from Paige's face then, as she was standing in front of a woman she had never met who apparently knew her name. "Er..."
"Sorry. You were in the hospital in March, am I right?"
Paige nodded then, seemingly accepting the explanation. She had been here for a few days following her rescue from Amaris the demon's place. It made sense that the hospital administrators might know who she was. She had been asked to demonstrate her ability so it wasn't like she was the average Joe Blow with a head cold. "Yes. Paige Winterbourne. I spoke with the lady at the front desk and she told me I could come up?"
Abby nodded, though usually she preferred if it visitors were beeped through. Someone wsa getting a memo later. "How can I help you, Paige."
"Actually," Paige said before taking a seat and crossing her legs at the ankles in a very dignified way, "I was thinking more about how I could help you."
Abby blinked, but she had enough willpower not to gape and say 'wha?!' "Alright? How are you interested in helping?" The girl was young and she looked as if a strong wind would topple her over, but that wasn't the point. If she wanted to help, Abby wasn't going to tell her now.
Instead of answering, Paige concentrated and then all the shutters on Abby's windows raised at the same time, letting in the afternoon gloom. She smiled again once this was accomplished, and she sat back, looking pleased.
Abby was impressed, though she wasn't entirely sure how shutter raising was going to help. "My brother told me you could do things like this."
"Thomas?" Paige smiled dreamily. In her own little world she no longer was married to the Winchester brothers, she was married to Thomas and they had twin girls, June and Sarah. "He's awesome."
"He is." Abby leaned forward. "Paige, your ability is incredible, however I'm not entirely sure-" Before Abby could finish the sentence, the locked drawer beside her clicked open. Abby shifted her head to the right to stare at it, and she watched as the drawer slid open and a confidential file lifted out of it.
"Okay!" Abby grabbed the file out of the air before Paige got to read all about Nicholas Kinsey. "Yes...good point." This girl could open locks with her mind. She could move things and rearrange them. There were limits, of course, but it was still incredible. Abby wondered what the limits were, specifically. "Paige, what do you expect to do with your talent?"
Paige shrugged. "I know you all go rescue people and things. I know you write things to each other on the internet because I can read Thomas' journal. I saw Amaris' wings and I know she's a demon and I've been reading back and learning. It's like the writers of Supernatural just knew, you know?!" Paige grinned. "I want to help! I could be awesome! I could get into locked buildings or...you know, whatever!"
"Er...Paige-"
"What?! Do you think I'm not tough?" Paige stood up and she frowned. "Because I was alone with that demon for days, and I'm fine."
"That's not it, dear. It's dangerous the things they do. I don't go-"
"Thomas does," Paige said with a grin. "He goes and he's in Rome right now and I want to go to Rome too!"
"Don't you have school?" Abby looked incredulous. So did Paige.
"School?! How can someone think about school when there are people being massacred!?"
"There's no massacre happening here in London now that I know of. Come on, dear. I will definitely mention this to everyone, but you need to stay in school right now. You're young, that's where you should be focused."
"Pptthhh," was Paige's thoughtful answer. "I want to help! I want to kick arse!"
Abby grinned. "And you will. After you graduate. Come on, out!"
Paige frowned, but she left like Abby said. Abby had the distinct feeling, however, that this was far from over.
