Godric had called into the helpline to let them know he wouldn't be in. This happened every once in awhile and they were well used to it by now. They knew Godric suffered from bipolar disorder, and that even though he managed it well and stuck to his meds, sometimes a depressive state was unavoidable.

He had spent the entire day playing on his keyboard, though now he was sitting on his bed with a cigarette between his lips and fingers, watching Lindsay Lohan talk to Rachael McAdams on his tiny television. He blew the smoke from his lips and it curled in the air as he sighed. "Don't give in, Lindsay! Argh, Mean Girls is too much of an emotional journey." And he flipped off the telly.

Today just wasn't a good day. They happened to everyone, it was just that Godric had to be more careful on his not-good days. Before he had been serious with his meds, he had spent some of his not-good days fighting the urge to commit suicide. Absently, Godric ran his thumb over one of the long scars that he had carved deep into his flesh. Today, he had no such urge. But he remembered.

As his grew gradually darkened, Godric settled into the gloom. He smoked cigarette after cigarette (his mother would have had a fit) until the darkness broke with the opening of a door. The hall light streamed into the room, unbbidden, and Godric looked up at the light-bringer, his eyes sheilded by his arm. "Hello?"

"Hey, Gryffindor."

Serenity. Serenity was the only one who could get away with calling him that, and that was final. Godric pulled his arm away and he gave her half a smile. "Hello, Serenarenity. What brings you here?"

"To the realm of the Goblin King? Just a hunch is all?" Serenity moved over to his fuzzy beanbag and she dropped herself into it. "How are you?"

"Blah. How did said hunch occur?"

"I didn't get countless text messages referring to me as 'doll' and telling me all about the gorgeous guys you happen upon during your daily travels. That only happens when you're having a down day. So I thought I'd see if this was one of those days which is better with people. Feel free to tell me to bugger off, I get it."

"Nah. Actually...I think I'd rather you didn't. Thank you, Serena."

"My pleasure." Serenity smiled at him and she crossed her legs. "So is it talking you want to do?"

"Maybe. I miss...people." Godric looked down at his hands and he sighed. "Not so much people as very specific 'lover'-type people. That's what I miss. I haven't...I've kept my distance and it's been...a really long time."

Serenity gave Godric a sympathetic look, and she reached up to touch his leg. "You have to feel comfortable first. Or you'll end up like me." Serenity sighed and she looked up to the ceiling. "And trust me, you don't want to screw gerries."

Godric's eyes widened and his mouth hung slightly open for a moment before he realised that was rude. "Serenity...what?"

"Yeah, so...after Jason? Apparently I decided sleeping with bald eagles was better than making a connection." Serenity ran her hands through her hair and she sighed. "Pretty stupid, hmmm?"

"I don't think so." Godric sighed and he leaned down on his bed, rolling onto his back. "Not that I think it was frighteningly intelligent either."

Serenity laughed and she nodded. "Yeah, me neither. I didn't get the spot in Spectre's band either. So I guess...I'm feeling a little melancholy myself today."

Godric reached out for her hand and he gave her a kind smile. "Well then, milady. We can be melancholy mechanics together. And you are going to play your music for me and I will join you, because even if you didn't get a place in Spectre's band, you always have one in my heart."

Serenity grinned and she took Godric's proffered hand. "Words like that, and you'll have a boyfriend in no time. When you're ready."

Godric laughed and it felt good. "When I'm ready."
