Escalating (Flynn, Jacob)

darker_londonFlynn's resolve was wavering. He had made Spectre promise not to let him run away. But that was before the brick.
Caring for a baby was not easy, especially when you needed so much stuff, even to go to Quinn's house for the night. James didn't need so much stuff, but Jacob did, and Flynn had been in the process of rounding it up while the sweet, little boy held tightly to his toes and blabbered away at the ceiling from a spare playpen.
When the brick crashed it's way through the kitchen window, Flynn was across the room in seconds, his body shielding tiny Jacob, who instantly began to cry.
"It's okay, shhh. Uncle Flynn loves you." Flynn reached down and he scooped Jacob into his arms, glancing around to make sure the house was safe. "It's okay, Jacob, we're going to be okay." Though Flynn wasn't sure, and Jacob's crying proved he was not convinced.
"Who's there?!" Flynn called out, and he crept towards the kitchen, as smoothly and as silently as a cat would. When he saw the brick, he rushed towards it. There was a note tied to it, but Flynn didn't take the time to wonder at the perpetrator's lack of originality. He was far too caught up in everything that was happening. Quickly, Flynn leaned down and he picked the rock up in one hand before rocking Jacob back and forth while he untied the note. "Shhh, Jacob. No one's going to hurt you."
When the note was free and unfolded, Flynn skimmed his eyes across it. You can't hide forever, O'Reilly.
"Oh, for fu...fudge...I like fudge." Flynn looked down at Jacob, who still looked fussy, but his cries had quieted. "Yeah. Fudge. A great lot of fudging trouble, that's for fudging sure." Flynn crinkled the note into nothing in the palm of his hand and he threw it in the bin in disgust. "We're going to be a little late to Uncle Quinn's house, Jacob. But we'll go soon." First he had to clean up the mess. There were more kids and animals in the house and if they hurt themselves Flynn would have more to feel guilty about.
As if he wasn't putting them in enough danger to begin with.
