Thomas knew he'd see Spectre again on Saturday, but he couldn't help but feel glum that he couldn't see him now. It was his birthday tomorrow. And Spectre wouldn't see him for it. And he'd been through trauma. He felt like he had the right to pout. At least for an hour or so! Especially now while he was alone in the house save for the two small kittens jumping about his bed, making his pouting tough going sometimes. They were really quite cute.
And then Peter showed up at his door unannounced. "Thomas."
Thomas jumped and he stared at Peter with wide, fearful eyes. "GUH! Peter! Wha...hi?"
Peter chuckled. "Hey there, Braveheart."
"How did you get in?! Is Mums back?"
"No, no. I erm...picked the lock." Peter said sheepishly. "I did knock! But you didn't answer."
"You picked the lock! Felon. I could've been showering, you know!"
"As if you'd care that I walked in on that. Anyway, you're not. You're sitting." Peter moved then, to kneel in front of Thomas. He crossed his arms across Thomas's lap and he rested his chin on them, looking up at Thomas with soulful, puppy eyes. "Which means you were probably too deep in thought to hear."
"Too deep in brood actually." Thomas said flatly.
"Aren't you seeing Mary soon?"
"Yeah. Which means I have to get my brood on now before she goes and makes everything wonderful again."
"Ah. I see. Well, I suppose it's best to give brooding a chance too..." Peter paused and then he took a long envelope out of his pocket. "Here. Happy birthday."
Thomas gave Peter a deeply annoyed look. "My birthday is tomorrow!"
"I...I know when your birthday is!" Peter rolled his eyes, though it was in amusement. "Look, just...take the damn envelope and open it!"
Thomas gave him a suspicious look, but he did as he was told. He pulled out a ticket to Spectre's show the next night in Wolverhampton. And he blinked in confusion. "Peter...this is in Wolverhampton. Which...is not London."
"I am aware of that. You sound like you think I'm an idiot or something. You'll need these." Peter held out the keys to his Aston Martin. "I was going to get you a train ticket, but I know how much you like being James Bond. Besides, this way you can come back as late as you want, once you and Spectre are done...'celebrating' or whatnot..."
"But-" He knew how much Peter probably wanted to be with Thomas on his birthday. Peter had lost him. He'd been without him for 14 years. And while Thomas knew his birthday should be about him, Peter was his best friend. He knew it was a huge sacrifice for Peter to do something like this. To put him first when he had to miss Thomas while he was gone. He'd probably been hoping to spend Thomas's birthday with him since last year.
"No. No buts. It's your birthday. Come on, Thomas. Can you tell me anywhere you'd rather be on your birthday than at your Spectre's concert, watching him making his music, all light up and sparkly?"
Thomas bit his lip. "No." And that was the truth.
"Good then. Go. Please go. And have the best damn birthday you've ever had, okay?" Peter leaned in and he kissed Thomas's knee. "I want to see you happy again. I hate knowing you're all...broody in rooms alone."
Thomas stared at Peter quietly for a moment and then he reached his hands out, resting them gently on Peter's arms. "Peter...thank you."
"You're welcome." Peter beamed, happy he made Thomas happy. And then a kitten raced over to him. It was Titania, and she sniffed at Peter's hair, her hackles raised, as if she thought it was some sort of horrible predator. Peter's eyes widened and he froze. "Thomas..."
Thomas covered his mouth quickly, so as not to laugh. Titania sniffed Peter's hair again, and she jumped back as if expecting an attack. When none came, she stepped forward and rubbed her head against Peter's before happily chewing on a few strands. Peter was absolutely shaking with fear. Gah, animals. "Thhoommmmaaassssssss!" Peter wailed, afraid that if me moved, Titania would spray him with germs or something.
Thomas was laughing so hard by then that tears were streaming down his face. "Titania gave me a present too!" He managed to squeak.
"You are going to Hell, save me from the kitten!!" Peter wailed.
And eventually, a few minutes later, Thomas did. And then there was much mocking and merriment.
