Aly had been allowed to come home today and Peter was ecstatic. She still wasn't feeling completely better, however, and so as soon as she was home, she opted to take a nap. Peter stayed with her until she fell asleep. Afterwards, he made his way into the hall where Thomas was waiting for him, looking incredibly guilty. Peter pulled the door closed and he raised his eyebrows to his best friend. "Something wrong, Thomas?"
"Not....wrong." Thomas took Peter's hand and he pulled him into the ballroom made movie room across the hall.
"Okay? So I shouldn't be freaking out right now?" Peter asked.
"No! Peter, uhm...have you been on the internet since yesterday?" Thomas asked carefully.
"No, I was with Aly. Oh god, who died!?"
"Peter! Jesus. No one died! Man, what's it been like since I left? Don't...don't answer that. I already know." Peter licked his lips and waited expectantly. "No uhm...you might kill me though. Not that...it would do any good. Ahem. Kat said she was hungry and she didn't have any money so I went over there and took her out for dinner with your wallet."
Peter blinked. "Why...am I killing you for this? Is Kat okay? Does she need someone to-" Peter was cut off when Thomas placed his hand across Peter's mouth.
"I so wasn't done. After dinner she uhm...well she was housemateless and she said she didn't want to be alone and she brought me up to her apartment and then she came on to me."
"Whhuu!" Peter yelled into Thomas's hand.
"Oh sorry!" Thomas pulled his hand away from Peter's mouth.
"I said what!?"
"No no, nothing happened, but she wanted something to." Thomas said with a sigh.
"Oh." Peter nodded. "Okay. Thomas. Did you want something to happen too?" Peter asked, trying to remain calm. He wasn't actually sure what he was so frantic about. Thomas was wonderful and he wouldn't hurt Kat who was also wonderful...it had to be slight jealousy. Dammit.
"I...may have? Not like that though. Not a-one time thing. Not with her. And I can't stay. And..." Thomas trailed off and he crossed his arms across his chest.
"Oh..Thomas. I'm sorry..." Peter approached Thomas and he pulled Thomas into an embrace. This was the problem with bringing back from the dead. People got used to them. They got used to being around. Everyone wanted things they couldn't have. Peter was about to say something else, but downstairs the front door slammed so loudly it rattled the windows beside it. Peter froze, but when Aly didn't wake up he let go of Thomas and ran down the stairs. He reached the living room in time to see Kat heading back from the kitchen she'd found empty. She stalked right up to him and punched him hard in the arm. "Ow!" Peter looked shocked. "What...Kat what are you doing!?"
"What the fuck, Peter!?"
Peter raised his eyebrows. "Uh...you'll have to be more specific." Kat hit Peter in the arm again. "And stop hitting me!!"
"No! It makes me...feel better! Why didn't you tell me the world was seriously fucked up!?" Kat pleaded.
"I-Kat. What do you mean?" Peter took a step forward and he put his hands on Kat's arms.
"Don't touch me, you fucking liar!" Kat pulled herself out of Peter's hands and she ignored the hurt look on his face. "I'm talking about the weird whooOOOOoOOOOoooOOOo things you know about and D knows about and Renee knows about and Pierre knows about but KAT doesn't KNOW ABOUT!" Kat was flailing now, raising her voice and flapping her hands about.
"Kat please...calm down.."
"Oh fuck you, Peter! You should have told me!"
Thomas had come down the stairs and he went over to stand behind Kat. "Kat, it's okay." He said softly.
Kat whirled around and backed up from Thomas. "Oh no. You get away from me, you zombie." Instead of being upset, Thomas snorted and tried very hard not to laugh, but he failed. "Stop LAUGHING AT ME!!" Kat screamed. "It's not MY fault I didn't know about this shite!"
"I'm sorry!" Thomas said between giggles. "It's just...funny."
Peter sucked in his breath and he waited for Kat to scream again. When she didn't he said softly, "Kat. I know it's hard to believe but it's true. I didn't tell you because I was waiting for the right time. I didn't think..." Peter let out his breath.
"Right time?! When, Peter?! When is the right time to tell me I can see my sister again if I want to?"
Peter sighed. Yep, there it was. Exactly what he was afraid of. "Kat that's not...that's not how it works."
"So your dead best friend can go to your wedding but my Bianca can't come to see me? She can't see her nieces or nephews born? She can't see ME get married?! Not that I ever will because everyone I like is taken or a fucking zombie."
"Kat, I'm not saying that Bianca can never come back. Of course not. What I'm saying is that if you did it now, you'd never want her to leave and when she did you'd have to lose her all over again. Everytime Thomas leaves it kills me. I hate it. But he'd been dead for 12 years before I saw him again. I was used to being without him. You aren't used to being without Bianca."
Thomas decided he should speak up. "And she will see those things, Kat. She watches you all the time. She's very proud of you."
Kat turned to Thomas. "Wha?"
"She talks to me. And sings really off key. It hurts my ears, but I don't mind because she's a sweet girl. She's really proud of you. She said you kept your promise and she's proud of the progress you made."
Kat was breathing heavily and tears formed in the corners of her eyes, but she was calming down. And really, if Peter hadn't told her, he must have had a good reason. And if Bianca could see her, and she was okay.... "She said that?!" Kat finally managed to say.
"Of course she did, Kat."
"What..what does she sing?"
"Oh you don't want me to sing it...it'll be off key too. But something about swinging in the stars."
Kat grinned. "That's her favourite." She sniffed and gave Thomas a tight hug. Peter just stood over on the other side of the room feeling useless. "You're pretty cool for a zombie."
Thomas laughed. "Well thank you."
"Does this mean you're done hitting me?" Peter ventured.
Kat detatched from Thomas and she went to hug Peter. "I suppose." She said into his chest. "So...there's no such thing as unicorns, right?"
Peter chuckled. "Not that I know of. What did they tell you?"
"Uhm..just that there's other beings in the world and something like...I don't know. It kind of went over my head. But they said Thomas was dead which I knew because I hugged him last night and his heart wasn't beating. I thought I was crazy at first...I think they wanted me to know I wasn't crazy"
"Oh damn! I knew that no pulse thing would bite me in the arse sometime..." Thomas said.
"So..." Kat let Peter go and she faced Thomas again. "So do you still mean that thing you said about having no function problems? Even though you're all dead?"
Peter's eyes widened and Thomas turned red. "Heh...ahem. Yes. Yes that's...still true."
"I'll keep it in mind." Kat grinned and winked. "I have to go now. I have to beg my parents for money." She frowned and then headed out of the room before either Peter or Thomas could say anything.
"Did she...just hit on me again?" Thomas asked.
"I think she did, yeah. She must have a thing for zombies." Peter gave him a cheeky grin.
"Must run in the family!" Thomas shot back.
"Hey!" Peter squared his jaw and then he stuck out his tongue. "Yeah alright. I'll give you that one." Peter said and they both headed back up the stairs.
"Not....wrong." Thomas took Peter's hand and he pulled him into the ballroom made movie room across the hall.
