With Aly away taking care of David, Peter was left to care for Christina and sundry. They were staying in what was technically Thomas and Mary's new room, though Peter knew Thomas and Mary would never be upset that Christina was using the room to seek refuge from her shattered marriage. Peter felt terribly guilty even though he hadn't done anything, because David was his best friend outside of Thomas, and he hadn't known. David had been self-destructing and cheating on his wife, apparently for a long time, and Peter had been completely oblivious. And it had started before the tumour. Peter had no excuse. Christina didn't look like she blamed any of it on him, thankfully. Peter probably would have crumbled, had she said anything like 'how did you not know about this!?'

Before this past year, Flynn had never been out of the United Kingdom. Since joining Spectre's band, he had travelled all over Europe and then to the US, and now he found himself in Sweden again. The circumstances of this trip, however, made the vision rather less than pleasant. They were searching for little Mara Mors who had been taken from her school. Deirdre believed her to have been taken by a band of people who kidnapped supernaturals and auctioned them off to the highest bidder. The last place they had been known to have an auction was Helsingborg, Sweden. They had come back there, hoping to pick up the traders' trail and find where they were now, hopefully to find that Mara was not with them after all, but so far they hadn't even found a trail yet.

They had found nothing.

It had taken a lot for Peter to reach out to David. Peter loved David. David was one of his best friends and his brother-in-law and Peter hated that he hadn't noticed that David was suffering so much that he would cheat on his wife. But Peter was someone who had been cheated on in every relationship he had ever had, though Aly hadn't actually known that was what she was doing at the time, so he didn't necessarily count it. Peter hated cheating. He saw no excuse for it, but then the world was never black and white. Peter didn't believe it ever was. And so he shoved his own feelings about betrayal far away, and he reached out. Because David needed a friend right now and while Aly was no doubt showing him love, she was always better at being the 'bad cop' and she was probably kicking his arse all over his house at the same time.

Sort of like old times, except no one ends up dead... )

Things were getting tighter and tighter in the Littleton household, though Joe was trying as hard as he could to ignore that fact. The truth was that he still did not have a steady job, no matter how hard he tried to get one. And while he was doing accounts for the hospital and Deirdre's theatre, there was only so much work involved in it. And Joe knew they would give him money for nothing, but it wasn't exactly ideal. Jordan was going to go back to work as a teacher, but now she had to wait until after her surgery and recovery to do so, and with those bills too...supporting six people was a lot different than supporting three. Even if two of the people were very small. Babies were expensive despite the fact that they didn't take up much space. And Joe was beginning to wonder just how the hell he was going to keep the electricity on through the next couple of months.

Deirdre and Flynn were in Paris and the second Deirdre caught sight of the Eiffel Tower she knew she shouldn't have come. It was too soon. There was too much she hadn't worked through. In fact she hadn't worked through much of any of it. She had buried it under layers of seeming bravado and loud boisterousness that people expected when they talked to Deirdre. She had learned to ignore it. To pretend it didn't happen. But she had not gotten to the point where she could live knowing what had been done to her. She could only live pretending it hadn't been done to her. So many people looked at her and asked her how she did it. She talked about it frankly in public. The fact that she had been raped. But it was so much more than that. She had been sold. Over and over again, first at the auction and then at Madam Butterfly's. She had had a monetary value set on her. Someone had said how much she was worth and all in all, that made Deirdre feel more than worthless.
