Quinn was actually watching the telly when his phone rang. It was quite a rare thing for him really. But he'd finished his essays and he missed Flynn. He felt it was justified. Still, he was pleased for the distraction. He went to answer it, leaving Booster staring at the screen avidly, flicking his tail about like mad. "Quinn here!" He answered happily.
"Hi." Flynn said, because he wasn't all up on his phone etiquette yet.
"Mal?" Quinn said, quite pleased. "How are you?!" He asked as he took a seat near the window so he could smoke.
"Yeah it's me. I'm okay. You?"
Quinn laughed because Flynn was exactly the same in person as he was on the phone. "I'm fine. Bored. Watching the telly, actually. Is Fable giving you any trouble?"
"No." Flynn answered quietly. "She's here. I see her. But mostly she's just that. Here."
Quinn sighed. "I'm sorry, Mal."
"I'd rather her be here than there with you." Flynn stated simply. "Quinn, can I ask you a favour?"
"Anything." Quinn said easily, and then he quickly added, "as long as it doesn't include you leaving me for my own good again."
"Heh...no. Not this time. I want you to check up on a friend of mine. She's...alone there. And uhm...you'd have to be careful. You'd have to go to her work instead of her home."
"Sure, of course. Why the secrecy? Is she on the run from the Mob?" It was a joke, but with Flynn, you never could tell.
"Her boyfriend hurts her. He thinks she's sleeping with me. Which she isn't and never has, but he's still hurting her because of that. And if it wasn't me, it would be something else. But it's me currently. I can't handle that."
"I understand." Quinn said quickly. "If he sees me too, there could be more trouble."
"Yeah...so..you'll go to her work? Her name is Autumn. Autumn Evans."
"Of course I will. Mal..remember I told you I work at a shelter? It's a shelter for battered women and children. A nice one. A safe one where people don't get hurt."
"Oh...I..I didn't know." Flynn's heart beat a little faster there, both with hope for Autumn and love for Quinn.
"Well, I didn't say. There's so much to fill each other in on and it fell to the wayside. But of course I'll try to help."
"Thank you. You're...just...thank you."
"Anything, Mal. Thank you for trusting me."
"I do you know." Flynn said quietly. "It's hard. But I do trust you. You and Spectre." And Thomas, Abby and Deirdre to a lesser extent. But Spectre and Quinn completely. "As for everyone else...I'm working on it."
"You'll get there." Quinn said firmly.
There was a crash in the background that Flynn heard over the phone line and his heart leapt in to his throat. "What was that?!" He squealed and then all at once he heard Quinn burst in to gales of laughter.
"Booster attacked the telly and he knocked over my books!" Quinn said, amused. "Apparently he's had it with the written word, he just wants the pretty moving pictures!" And Flynn smiled as Quinn told him all about Booster, his classes, and the shelter before he had to go. Talking was good. It made him happy.
