Peter was sitting in the living room, bouncing his tiny son on his knee when Mirela ran in at breakneck speed, skinny limbs splaying everywhere. "PETER! Peter, look!" And she held up a plate. "Plate!" She said proudly, and then she beamed.
Peter absolutely melted because Mirela was quite possibly the cutest thing ever in the world and he nodded. "Plate, that's right."
And then Mirela burst into a full on nursery rhyme as well. "Jack nimble Jack quick Jack jump over candlestick!"
"Where did you learn that?" Peter asked with a grin.
"Lydia learned me this!" Mirela jumped up and down, very pleased with her new shiny English skills. "She very....erm...very..." Mirela pointed to her head.
"Smart." Peter supplied, glad he hadn't gone with his first guess, which had been 'crazy' before he remembered he was talking about his daughter there...
"Smart! Lydia smart!" Mirela looked pleased and then she danced over to Peter, setting the plate down on the coffeetable before she climbed into the sofa and curled up against him. "Peter!" She said, because that was another English word she knew well.
"Me!" Peter leaned down to kiss her red hair, pleased that she was seemingly already doing so well. Peter had introduced her to Camellia yesterday and that had helped. Camellia was a woman of faith, but she was someone who was able to work her faith around the fact that there were angels and demons in the world and she didn't force her view on others. She was the perfect friend for Mirela and luckily Mirela and Camellia thought so too.
"More words!" Mirela demanded, from her spot at Peter's side.
Peter chuckled, but he bounced Thomas around a little more before complying. He was certainly happy to help someone learn and change. That was what he did, after all.
