It was times like these that Gracelin really wished she owned a mobile phone. She had just come from a rehearsal and was already late in getting to her teacher's house to practise on his piano. He wasn't tutoring her, but she had earned those hours of the week in which she was allowed to use his piano to practice. She had earned them and, dammit, she hated losing some of that time to slow buses.
The street was busy, even though it was early Sunday afternoon. And when it happened, Gracelin didn't quite realise what was going on. There was the loud crunching sound and she- and others- were thrown out of their seats. Gracelin's head smacked against a upright bar next to her and then momentum threw her back into the seat again and against the window.
Then there were people panicing and the bus driver out of his seat and moving. Gracelin, feeling groggy, looked out the window and saw the other bus that had collided with them in the middle of an intersection. A thin trail of blood dribbled into her eye and she brushed it away with the back of her hand, her white shirt sleeve staining dark red.

Lee had been watching the traffic so had enough time to jerk his hands up to brace against the back of the seat in front of him. His hands slammed hard into the seat with the weight of his body behind them and he heard something go crack.
Suddenly, everything got louder as people started bottlenecking through the doors. Lee's entire body felt jarred but he was thinking clearly enough. The girl across the aisle was just sitting there, looking completely dazed and bleeding. He scooted across the aisle and sat down nect to her. "Need a hand?"

She said, "no," before she'd even thought about it. It was a natural reaction to someone offering her something out of the blue. She brushed once again at the trickle of blood when it got in her eye. "I'm bleeding," she said, not quite sure what she was talking about anyway.

"Can you walk, do you think?" Lee said, backing up into the aisle so she could get out. "My name is Lee. What's yours?"

She'd heard the question but it seemed very difficult to first work out what the queestion meant and then what her answer was. Name...what's your...name... "Gracelin," she told him as she stood up, legs unsteady but head more distracting.

Lee slipped his unsore hand under Gracelin's arm for support and helped her off the bus. The two of them were the last off, and out on the street everyone was milling about. Why were people so fascinated with accidents? Lee gave the spectators a brief frown and turned his attention to Gracelin. "You want to sit down?"

The guy- he said his name but it had slipped away from her- was helping her off the bus and outside. The traffic was moving more slowly and there was the sound of ambulances approaching somewhere. She nodded when he asked her if she wanted to sit down but she didn't move. She just frowned and looked around at the people standing about and then at the guy- very tall he was- her vision feeling off.

Lee guided her to the footpath and helped her sit on the curb. "Gracelin, can you follow my finger with your eyes?" he asked, holding up a finger a few inches away from her face and moving it across her feild of vision.

She sat and blinked at his finger but managed to follow it before closing her eyes and pressing her hand against her head. "We hit another bus?" she asked, even though it was rather obvious.

"Yeah, we did. It doesn't look too bad though." Lee said, looking out over the confusion. "There's an ambulance on its way, you should wait and get checked out in case you have concussion." And I have to make my hand stop hurting, owie owie ow.

Gracelin shook her head. "No," she said, and attempted to stand on shaky legs. "No, I have a piano waiting."
