It was as much the desire for sex as the desire to get out of her aunt's house that sent to to Victoria Lane and Pierre's bed. She wouldn't admit even to herself how much she enjoyed his presence. It even seemed like the sex was better with him than with other guys, and she couldn't quite work out why. All the same technicalities were going on and yet... but it was also scarier. The way he looked into her eyes during terrified her and made everything in her want to run.

But when they were done she didn't run. She slept. Not in his arms. Never in his arms. Delilah wasn't that type of girl. She wasn't the huggable lover to keep close as you dozed off. She had been once, but not now. Not anymore.

She knew it was a dream almost as soon as she fell into it. Sometimes it was just so clear. She'd never seen the way it had happened in real life, but she'd seen it a million times and a million differant ways when she'd closed her eyes. Screech of tires, screams of the dying, smash of glass. In her dreams she was always there, always watching from the sidelines and never able to do anything to change it. She screamed and yelled and shook and cried but nothing else.

Pierre's sleep this night was lighter than usual. The sex with Delilah had been hot and passionate, a marathon of sweat and pleasure, but he still wasn't entirely worn out. Not mentally, anyway. His head was too... busy. Renee was coming home. Tomorrow. She would finally be here, be home. 24 hours from now, she would likely be asleep with Deirdre... or something with Deirdre.

Then there was the matter of Tasha, always Tasha. What would she do once Renee was home? Try to see her here? There wasn't much chance that anyone would want to let her through the door... except for Slink. What the Hell was going on there, anyway? Not that it was any of Pierre's business. Slink was more than capable of taking care of herself.

And of course, there was always that shadow of what Ry was doing with Delilah. Even with her in his bed here and now, it was hard to forget.

His mind thus barred from deep sleep, he actually stirred as Delilah whimpered in her sleep. She almost sounded like she was crying...

Pierre roused himself at the sound, turning over onto his side. Del was shaking, her hand clawing at the pillow. He couldn't see her face, but she was obviously asleep... and gripped by nightmares. He reached over to her soft skin, laying his hand gently on her so as not to frighten her if she proved easy to wake.

"Del... Delilah, sweetie... you're having a nightmare. Wake up, babe."

There was someone stirring her. Someone trying to pull her free

Wake up, babe.

With another almost-whimper she found herself on the edge of awake. "Christopher?" she asked into the darkness, feeling the hand on her skin.

Christopher? Who was Christopher? Pierre didn't know any Christopher...

But then, Del wasn't fully awake yet, either. Best to deal with that before she slipped back into her nightmares... which were apparently about Christopher...

"Del, it's Pierre," he said, still trying to be gentle. This time he shook her lightly, trying to awaken her fully. "There's no Christopher... just Pierre. Sweetie, are you awake yet?"

Christopher in the darkness beside her. Wrapped up in Christopher's bed just like she always belonged. But no...not quite...

There's no Christopher... just Pierre.

A pause to work that through and she snapped further awake, sitting up straight in the bed and shaking her head to clear it. When she pressed the heals of her hands against her eyes it was damp there. Crying in her sleep. God dammit. "I'm awake," she told Pierre.

Indeed she was, fully it seemed as she sat up and appeared to try to hide her face.

She wasn't exactly the cuddly type in bed, but what was Pierre supposed to do? Del had obviously been dreaming something terrible... Slowly, he reached forward to wrap his arms around her, doing his best to comfort her.

"It's okay now," he murmured. "It sounded like you were having a pretty bad dream."

Her tone was cold and she slipped out of his arms and moved across the bed. "It was nothing. I'm fine." Sitting on the edge of the bed, he searched around the floor nearby for her clothes. She had to get out of here. She shouldn't be here.

Pierre pulled his hands back, but didn't move any further. She certainly didn't seem fine... and he was hardly going to let her go home to a house she hated if she wasn't. Or to Ry.

"Del," he asked, doing his best to keep his voice calm and even. "You said a name in your sleep. Well, you were half-awake, so I thought..." What did you think, Pierre? "Who is Christopher?" Is he somebody who is hurting you?

Every muscle in her body stiffened she she flicked her head around to look at him in the darkness. It took her a moment to realise she wasn't breathing and made herself start again. She turn away from him again, very very calmly, her eyes fixed on the vague glow of streetlights behind his curtains.

Her eyes were adjusting and the room was sinking into shades of grey before her eyes, her bare skin seeming bright in what little light there was.

"He's no one," she finally whispered after a very long pause, trying to keep her voice level.

Pierre moved slowly over to Del's side of the bed to sit next to her. He could see her and talk to her better this way, but he didn't try to touch her. Just tried to find the balance between sitting as close as a friend should, whilst still giving her the personal space that she obviously wanted. Whether he achieved it or not (was it possible?), he couldn't tell.

"You would tell me if somebody was hurting you, wouldn't you?" he asked. That was what worried him the most. If someone was doing to Delilah the kind of things that had been done to Jude, done to Renee...

She felt him moving more than she saw it. Her eyes were still looking across the room. Christopher. Pierre. She sorted them into the catagories they were meant to be in. Dead. Here.

She heard what Pierre said looked at him in confusion. "What?"

His eyes more or less adjusted to the gloom, Pierre could easily make out the confused expression on her face. Not a How did you know? confusion, but a genuine What the fuck are you talking about? confusion. Well, that was good... insofar as nobody was hurting her, anyway.

"Sorry," Pierre said, but couldn't help giving a small smile of relief. "I just worry... so much has happened to my friends recently. I would hate to think that someone was... well. Doing anything that would be bad for you. You know you're more to me than just this," he added with a nod to the bed.

Someone hurting her? As if Delilah would ever let anyone get away with that. His last words made her prickle You know you're more to me than just this...

"Because we're friends," she said, quietly but firmly. Just friends. This is friends. But maybe friends was too confusing. Delilah couldn't tell anymore.

"Yes," Pierre said. "That is something that I never want to lose. I care very deeply for you, Delilah. If there is something that is wrong, anything that I can help you with... I want to know. I want to be there for you. I want... to be someone you can rely on, for anything." He looked at Del, trying to get her to meet his eyes. He wanted her to see his sincerity. "Being that for you... would make me very, very happy."

"Del," he said quietly, "is... all of this because of someone else? Someone you trusted before?"

Right, that was it. This conversation was over. She stood up in the darkness and knelt on the floor, feeling for the familliar plastics and leather of her clothing. She had to get out of this place.

"We can't do this forever," Pierre said, trying to keep his voice calm, but there was an edge of pleading in it now. "Do you intend to live forever without trust? Del, there's more to life than this. More to lov-" He bit back the word, but was it too late...?

It was dark so when she spun on him it was very possible he wouldn't even see the anger in her eyes. She stood there in his bedroom, feet from him and unclothed, everything in her vibrating with anger. "Don't you dare talk to me about love!" she spat.

Her violent words made Pierre's heart feel like it was being ripped out of his chest, but he gritted his teeth against it and tried to stay as calm as he possibly could. As painful as this might have been for him... for both of them... if he was on the edge of drawing something out of her, he had to persevere. It was the only way they would ever be happy...

"Tell me why, then," he asked. "Please, tell me what happened to make you feel this way! I want to understand."

"Because I've already been in love." He voice was still harsh, covering up every little fear in her with violence and anger. "I've already done that. Already had that. I gave him everything I had in me and knew him like I'd never known anyone. I would have stayed beside him until the end of fucking time!" She shook her head angerily in the darkness. Pierre could never understand. "And where is he now? He's dead now. Rotton and gone and dust and nothing." She gritted her teeth, eyes locked on his, refusing to back down or weaken. "So don't tell me about love."

Oh God. So that was it. It all made sense, and a huge part of Pierre wished it didn't, wished that it had been some stupid reason, wished to a God that didn't exist that she was just a selfish bitch, anything as long as she didn't have to have gone through that. But she had. And it was quite clearly the root of everything.

He'd pushed and pushed... and now he'd gotten what he wanted, really, hadn't he? Now he understood. He understood... now he had to start picking up the pieces.

"Del... I'm so sorry..." Not enough. Sorry will never be enough. He sighed heavily. "Thank you for telling me. I'm so sorry it had to happen like this, but..." He knew he didn't need to finish the sentence. But you never would have told me otherwise.

She stood there with her arms crossed over her chest, watching the floor. She said nothing and didn't move for a long time. When she did move it was to grab her pants and pull them on quickly before looking for her bra.

"I'm going for a walk," she told him numbly as she hooked it up and then grabbed for her coat. "I'll get the rest of my clothes some other time." She needed the night time air. She needed to jump on her bike and just ride.

Some other time. Well, at least she plans on coming back. "Be careful," Pierre said. It seemed best to let her go now. She would need to come to grips with what she had just told him, the part of herself she had revealed to him.

Hell, he was going to need to come to grips with it, too. Things could never be simple, could they?
