darker_london | Ticket to Ride - Jude/Slink

It was a cherry red Galerija 2005 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible. That meant exactly nothing to Jude- a string of meaningless words; she just knew it was a nice car. She hadn’t even told anyone when she’d started to get her driving lessons, too sure that she was going to screw it up and fail (just like she did at almost everything else, it seemed.) And now she had her licence and a brand new car to go with it.

A shiny car.

She pulled up outside Victoria Lane and sat there in the driver’s seat wondering what was going on inside the house. Was it still being filled with drama and bad times? If so…

Jude reached for her mobile and sent a text to Slink. Hey sweet thaang wanna go for a ride? Look outside.

Thank fuck thought Stephie, as she read Jude's message. The tension in this house was unbelievable. It was stinking hot outside so she didn't even grab a coat, just pelted down the stairs and out the front door and- "Jesus! Jude!" She stopped dead in her tracks, then ran the rest of the way to the car. "Pretty!"

Jude smiled at her and revved the engine for effect. "You like it?" she asked, flicking her hair back of her shoulder. She felt like she was in a giant confidence creating beast of metal.

"You're so shallow?" Jude asked, amused, as she pulled out from the curb and u-turned to head back toward the city. "I just bought a twenty-seven thousand pound car because I thought the headlights looked like eyes." She smiled at Slink. "And it's very shiny.b"

"Not my eyes," she corrected her and then sounded slightly embarrassed. "Just...eyes." She paused and bit her lip as she thought about it. "That's not a very good reason to buy a car, is it?" she pointed over the dashboard. "But look how red it is! And... converitibly."

Jude stopped at a set of light and used the moment to give Slink a raised eyebrow. "Don't you think that's the sort of question you should ask before getting into a car with the criminally minded?"

Jude reached for her wallet between the seats and dug out her licence. "See," she said, tossing it on Slink's lap as the light went green. "It's all legal and everything."

"Never used to ask, and I only got myself in a very minor accident." Stephie shrugged, taking a look at her licence and snorting. "God, you take photos like a model everywhere, don't you?"

Jude's lips fell into a perfect smirk and she nodded. "Of course, darling." This time when she flicked her hair it was self-mocking all the way. "One must always be fiece, sweetheart." She gave her a faux-shocked look. "Didn't you ever see America's Next Top Model?"
