Even when Aly felt like dying, life still went on. And on and on. It probably didn't help matters that she was too afraid to have her children in the house with her. If the Templar got their hands on her children...it would be the worst thing she could imagine. Worse than Peter dying. And she knew she should be with them, but she couldn't bring herself to leave Peter's home. At least, not until she had to go to the doctor's for a checkup. That was one of those things about life going on that annoyed Aly. She couldn't just lie in bed and cry (but thank everything for Angie who was taking care of most everything else). She had things she needed to do, and making sure her unborn child was safe was one of them.

There was something about autumn that made Lavannah feel alive. Maybe it was because around her the world was getting ready to sleep for the winter and she had no such need. Or because she'd been rescued in the autumn. It was almost a year ago now when David and Peter had come to her in the hospital. They'd learned how to listen when no one else could. More importantly, they'd learned how to speak to her when she had no ears to hear. And they'd given her Louise. Her filter. Her constant companion. Without the spirit of Louise always with her, Lavannah would be doomed to hearing the constant voices of the dead. It never stopped. They never stopped.

Peter was choking. He couldn't breathe because there was something in his throat and his eyes snapped open, almost immediately blinded by light. Where was he? Why couldn't he breathe?! He tried to reach for his mouth, to remove the obstruction, but he couldn't move his arms. Oh god, he was paralysed again. Alarms went off all around him and Peter made a horrified noise until he heard someone rush towards him.
