It was after dinner time when Lavinia finally staggered home. She had woken up in a small building not far from the street she lived on, her head spinning with retrospective fear and the effects of two soul suckings in one day. But she was alive. She was alive. The dreaded Amaris had had her and Lavinia had survived. Now she just needed to make sure this whole 'letting you go' thing wasn't a trick. And it hadn't been.

Lavinia burst through the door and she called out for her biker husband who was probably beside himself despite the message she had left for her loved ones on her journal. "Mad Dog?" she called, and she saw him round the corner in an instant, frantically pushing the wheels of his wheelchair so he could reach her quickly. His lined face was haggared and worried and even though he could see now that she was alright, the expression did not fade.

"Lavinia!" He stopped when he was almost to her so he could hold his arms out for her. Lavinia stumbled into them, letting herself fall into his lap. The wheelchair and Mad Dog's legs could take it.

"Oh Jesus, Glenn." She pressed her face into his neck and she hid there, her entire body shaking. She felt her husband's arms around her and, for certianly not the first time, she was so desperately glad to not only not be alone any more, but to be married to someone as wonderful as Mad Dog.

"What happened?" Mad Dog asked breathlessly. He was busy planting kisses all over her head. "I have your children scouring the city for you! I damn near got out of this chair and scoured myself."

Despite the situation, Lavinia stopped hiding and she lifted her face to smile at him. "That would have been quite the feat."

"Adrenaline, you know," Mad Dog kissed her forehead. "Lavinia, where were you?"

"Amaris," Lavinia whispered, and she felt Mad Dog's grip on her tighten so much it almost hurt. In this instance, however, she didn't mind. She understood completely. The dastardly demon was the reason he was in a wheelchair at all, and to think of his wife in her hands was very probably one of Mad Dog's worst nightmares.

"Babe..." Mad Dog pulled her close and he hugged her tightly. "How?"

"She found me shopping. She just wanted to talk, Glenn. And when I didn't give her what she wanted, she left me go-"

"Are you hurt?" Mad Dog asked, his voice overladen with worry.

"No," Lavinia breathed. "Not really. My head hurts from when she took my soul. And I'm thirsty. Hungry too. But it's not..." Lavinia moved to nuzzle his cheek with her nose. Mad Dog had suffered many things at the hands of Amaris, starvation very much being one of them. "That's just because it's past tea time."

"We should call the kids," Mad Dog said then, trying to be rational in the face of his horror. "They're panicking."

"I know how they feel," Lavinia said quietly. "God, I thought I was going to die. And...I might be seventy-five, but shit if I'm ready to knock off..."

Mad Dog gave her a kiss. He called her children and Lavinia resolved to write a journal post to let everyone else know she was okay. Soon. For now, she wanted to be reassured. She melted against Mad Dog's chest and he held her close. Lavinia let her eyes fall closed and she allowed herself to be completely vulnerable; completely protected by someone else. For most of her life, Lavinia had been on her own, responsible for taking care of everyone around her. For now, though, she let herself be taken care of. And despite what she had just been through, it felt wonderful.
