Alessandro Dragonetti was still feeling slightly ill, even with several hours of sleep behind him. He was glad that the proceedings on the history of the Templar movement were held in a place where he could sit down. He was sitting to the left of their leader, Bishop Ramsey. All the way down the large oak table, seated on either side of it, were his brethren. Those placed highly in the order. And all of them wanted to hear what he had to say.
"Yes, Father Dragonetti. We were all impressed at the footage you managed to capture of the one you postulate is the Antichrist's lover. He burned and didn't perish and this does lead credence to your belief that Peter Kemp is the Antichrist himself. That still leaves the us with problems. The late Bishop Terrence Holden went after this Father Kemp and he was killed, God rest his soul." Bishop Ramsey folded his hands and waited for an answer, his appearance one of complete patience and meekness.
Dragonetti took a look around the table and then he finally answered Ramsey's query with what he had hoped to be able to say the entire time. "Your Grace, as you know Bishop Holden was a man I looked up to with a great sense of humility and awe. He was a Godly man, and one who believed in this cause with all his being. He witnessed our attempt to kill Peter Kemp and we both saw the blade slide right through the man's neck without casing him any harm. I believe his downfall was his haste in trying to rid the world of such a detestable creature. I know he will be in Heaven and in God's hands for his eagerness to return the world to the splendour of our Lord. And we will learn from this lack of foresight. We will not make the same mistake again."
"I hear you have thought this through, Father Dragonetti. However, I still do not hear your plans."
Dragonetti nodded and he looked up to the view screen above them so their brothers in Rome could see him too. "Where Holden failed, was to see how very vehemently Kemp's minions will protect him. And he placed his faith in a Heavenly Being named Caoilfhionn who turned on him at the last minute. God has granted us his Heavenly Beings to use, but not to treat as one of our own. They are too fickle. Satan himself was one such creature and look where he is now. It is my belief that instead of taking on the lot of them, we should lure Peter Kemp away from them. Once he is in a secured location, we should be able to continue with our purpose. We can start slowly. The creature Rosa Del Vecchio had an entire town believing in God. We can introduce the Heavenly Creatures in remote areas first, and spread to the more populated areas. Soon the entire world will fear and love our God as they should. They will make amends for turning away. And the world Bishop Holden envisioned will be brought about. Through patience."
"Your plans are to be commended, Father Dragonetti. How do you plan to separate Father Kemp from his comrades?"
Dragonetti smiled, pleased they had asked. "That I have already seen fit to take care of. Last night our dear brothers apprehended the runaway Brother Gavin Kincade." A hush fell upon the conference room, followed by the murmuring of twenty voices at once. Gavin Kindcade was the brother of Kyle Kincade who had once been one of their number. Gavin had been their prisoner for a year and three months until he had escaped, killing his brother in the process. He had remained off of their radars until he had shown up in Rome and killed their leader, Archbishop Coronati. His name was infamous.
Dragonetti continued. "Brother Kincade is quite close with Kemp, as I am sure you can imagine. And after Brother Kincade has been appropriately punished for his sins, he will lure the Antichrist here without ever realising he has done it. One thing we have to say about the creature; he is intensely loyal."
There was the general sound of assent and Ramsey pounded his fists against the table. "Dragonetti? Make it so. I will not have another mess like the failed invasion Holden was responsible for. I was ready to drop this matter altogether until you managed to find us new evidence. If you can capture this Peter Kemp, and satisfactorily demonstrate in front of our eyes that he is indeed what you say he is, then we will continue with the plans. For now, concentrate on him and no others. At the very least, he is a traitor to his church many times over and he should burn for that."
"I think you'll find, Your Grace," Dragonetti said with a sly tone, "that burning him has absolutely no effect."
"That, Father, is up to you."
