Lee was taking a break from unpacking the miniscule amount of things he'd brought over from Dublin by lying on the lawn, soaking up whatever rays of sun he could get. He'd always been a bit of a sun-whore and he knew how rare sunny days in London were, so he was making the most of it while he could.
Cars were rushing past on the nearby street, a neighbour was mowing a lawn and Lee thought it might be nice if he had some music. He'd have to look into getting an mp3 player of some sort.
It was at that moment when a CD came flying out of the upstairs window and landed on the grass beside him. Well... that hadn't been quite what he'd expected. He rolled over and plucked it from the ground, it was by someone he hadn't heard of, Dream Theater. It had come out of Del's window and he wondered if it had been accidental or not. (But then why would a CD be sitting on her windowsill without a case?)
He decided to take it back up to her. Coming out of the sun, he took the stairs two at a time as usual and knocked on her bedroom door.
She'd been sitting on her bed after switching on her stereo. Everything had been fine until the CD changed and it was Dream Theater playing at her. God damn Dream Theater! They weren't even one of her bands. Dream Theater belonged to Pierre.
She didn't want to think about him. Because when she did...
Let me know what plagues your mind
Let me be the one to know you best
Be the one to hold you up
When you feel like you're sinking
Tell me once again
What's beneath the pain you're feeling
Don't abandon me
Or think you can't be saved
She crossed the room quickly and pulled the CD door open, yanking the disc out and then frisbeeing it out the window. Then, with a loud thump, she sat down, back against her cupboard and face in her hands. She didn't want to think about him. She felt guilty and-
There was a knock on the door and for a moment she thought it was Pierre and didn't know what she felt. She settled for a moment and said, "Yeah."
"It's Lee," he called through the door. "Uh, your CD almost brained me on it's drastic escape to freedom. Did it fall or was it pushed?"
"Oh," she said. She didn't move from where she was but said. "Come in and give it to me?"
Lee turned the handle and entered Del's room, which looked a lot different now that there was someone living in it. In fact, it looked a bit like someone had set up residence inside a music store. She was sitting on the floor against her cupboard and looked... far less than happy. He gave her a small warm smile and crouched down to give her the CD. "Here."
"Thanks," she reached out and took it in both hands before promtly snapping it in half and throwing both halves out the still open window across from her. "That's better."
Lee laughed briefly and gave Del a sympathetic smile. "Not your taste in music, then?"
"They're a stupid band," she muttered. "All...singy and stupid." A pout met her lips and then she looked up at him. "What can I do for you other than the CD?"
"No," Lee smiled. "I just came up here to investigate the death of the CD, now that I know it was homocide I can close the case. I didn't really come to pry, but, are you alright?"
"I really must be looking fucked over," she told him. "I don't usually get asked this nearly so often."
Lee grinned. "Sorry, but people don't usually kill CDs when they're happy."
"Good point," she said and looked out the window. After a moment she put on a fake smile and said, "Yeah. I'm alright."
Lee gave Del a look that said he didn't believe it for a second, but he wasn't going to push. "Do you want some tea or coffee or lunch or something? I always make too much for just myself."
"I could eat," she admitted, not quite sure the last time she had. She pulled herself to her feet slowly.
