Yesterday's talk with Delilah had certainly been... enlightening. Although, to be honest, it wasn't really the talk so much as the kiss that hold told Renee what she needed to know about the situation.
She had Pierre in tow as she stepped into her and Deirdre's room. Pierre hadn't seemed sure why whatever Renee had to say concerned Deirdre directly, but he certainly wasn't opposed to her being there. Far from it. It gave him a feeling of foreboding, though. His problems with Del seemed to be expanding to encompass others at an alarming rate, if both Renee and Deirdre were being caught up in it. And he was the one who had sent Deirdre, so in a way, it was his fault. He knew he shouldn't have been thinking like that, but...
Renee beckoned Deirdre over to sit with them on the bed. She sighed as they both looked at her expectantly. "I need to talk to you about what happened at Delilah's," she began. Pierre already knew this, but her eyes crossed to Deirdre. Renee hoped she'd understand...
Deirdre raised her eyebrows. "Okay? Are you all right? Did she hurt you?!" Oh if she did, Deirdre was gonna kick some arse.
"No... she didn't hurt me," Renee said quietly. "She..." Renee looked at Pierre guiltily for a moment, before turning to Deirdre. As much as this affected Pierre... she had to say it to her.
"Delilah kissed me. I didn't realise... Not in time to stop her. I pulled away, but... she'd already done it, there was nothing I..." She sighed and looked into Deirdre's eyes, her own pleading for understanding.
Deirdre felt a stab of jealousy, but it wasn't directed at Renee. AUGH! How could Delilah DO this to Pierre?! "Oh, honey...are you okay?" She asked softly, as she reached out and took Pierre's hand. SHe caressed Renee's cheek with the other. She knew Renee was probably terrified that Deirdre would go all demon on her as she told her this. Deirdre had to let her know that she understood.
"Oui... I'm fine," Renee replied. "At first I thought she would be angry when I refused her... I thought she might hurt me, like she did to Pierre." She gave him a sympathetic look and placed a hand on his with Deirdre. "She seemed a little annoyed, but she got over it, and we talked."
Pierre sighed and lay down on the bed, his hand still being held by both Deirdre and Renee. Suddenly, it just seemed too much effort to be sitting up.
"What did you talk about?" he asked flatly.
Renee gave Pierre's hand a squeeze. It was hard to know how to begin, but... she figured he would probably just like to hear it straight out.
"Mostly that she is thinking about leaving again, going back to Scotland. I told her that people would miss her, but I don't know if that will be of any concern to her. She didn't seem very willing to talk about you, or whatever feelings there may or may not be between you. I definitely got the impression that they were a big part of what she wants to run away from."
Pierre nodded. "And was she alright after... what happened the other night?"
"She seemed to be. She didn't really want to talk about that, either. I think more than anything, she just felt stupid for letting it happen."
Pierre nodded again, but said nothing.
"Why is she running?!" Though Deirdre realised then that she had run and, in doing so, she had found Father Peter and therefore salvation. "Er--I mean...I hope she doesn't go. She obviously has problems and it would be better to deal with them here where she has people who care. Though she seems to be running through THEM pretty quickly."
Pierre looked up at Deirdre, then over to Renee. Renee returned his gaze evenly, but after twelve years of knowing the girl, he knew the subtleties of her face. She wanted to say something, but was holding her tongue. Now wasn't the time for that, though.
"What is it, Renee?" he asked gently.
Renee bit her lip and looked down, then back at Pierre. "I don't mean to sound callous," she said quietly. "But I wonder if you shouldn't give up on this now before you are hurt even more. I don't think she wants to be helped, Pierre."
Deirdre stayed silent. She wanted to say that Renee hadn't appeared to want help when Deirdre had tried to intervene with her. But the intervention had worked and Renee had come back from a dark place... Still, Del wasn't Renee.
"You don't think she's worth it," Pierre murmured. I don't think she wants to be helped, Pierre. Those were exactly the kind of thoughts he had about Tasha. And yet, he felt eternally guilty about not trying harder with her, even after everything she had done. But Del wasn't Tasha. She wasn't a bad person.
"That's not it at all," Renee said. "But maybe she's not ready for someone like you yet, Pierre. That's all."
Pierre sighed heavily, and turned his gaze to the ceiling. "Does she want to see me at all?"
"No," Renee said after a moment. "Not at the moment. She implied that she might even leave without saying goodbye to anyone, but I don't think she will. She doesn't seem to have the resolve. If there is one thing you are definitely right about, Pierre, it's that she is very fragile right now."
Pierre simply stared at the ceiling for a few moments before turning to Deridre. "What do you think, Deirdre?" he asked. "Do you think I am wasting my time with her?"
Deirdre's eyes widened. She didn't know what to say, why was he asking her?! If she told him to keep trying and Delilah continued to treat him like shite then it was her fault. If she told him to give up and then it turned out he could have gotten through, then it was her fault.
"I...er...Pierre, what do YOU want?"
Pierre barely even hesitated before replying, "I don't want to stop trying. I want to make a difference. I want to make her happy."
"Then you're not wasting your time." Deirdre said simply. And then more quietly she said, "I didn't give up on Renee, even when she wouldn't speak to me. And we're back together. So even when it was...er...even when it was ripping me in two, I didn't give in and it worked." She looked over at Renee shyly.
Renee made a small sound of adoration and wrapped her arms around Deirdre, holding her tightly. "I love you," she whispered, before resting her head on Deirdre's shoulder and turning her attention back to Pierre.
Pierre gave them a small smile, and rolled onto his side to face them. "Then I will keep trying, too. Even though I do not know what I am going to do yet." What Delilah had tried to do with Renee hurt him, and yet somehow, the fact that hurting him was probably exactly what she had intended made it hurt less. Perhaps because it seemed so... desperate.
"I love you too." Deirdre said, kissing Renee's cheek. "And you too, Pierre. And we're here to help, if we can. We can cuddle Pierre and make him feel better!"
"I do enjoy that," Pierre smiled, and crawled over to sprawl himself in Deirdre and Renee's laps. "This is very helpful!" he grinned. "You two beautiful girls always make me feel better."
"That was in the job description! Really, I can show it to you." Deirdre was still feeling quite upset that someone had made a move on her girl, but it had to be motivated by something. And she didn't want to bring it up again so she ran her fingers through Pierre's hair and smiled at him.
"It's a binding contract, too," Renee grinned. "Like one of those ones from Wolfram and Hart that you cannot burn!"
Pierre grinned right back at her, and reached up to take the two girls into a huge hug. "I love you," he sighed, holding them tightly. "And we will get through this, like we do with everything. I can see that now. Sometimes, I just need a little help from my friends."
Deirdre kissed Pierre's cheek lightly. "Well and you know I'll always be around! Heh."
Pierre stroked Deirdre's face and smiled gently up at her. "That is more comforting than I could possibly tell you," he said quietly.
"Really? Well. Good. And I'll always be hot too. Does that help as well?" She asked, a wicked smile forming on her lips.
"It doesn't hurt," Pierre grinned.
From behind, Renee slowly wrapped her arms around Deirdre's waist, not missing an inch of feeling up with her hands, then gently nibbled Deirdre's neck. "I'm certainly going to enjoy it," she whispered smokily into Deirdre's ear.
"I bet you are! And I will enjoy you enjoying it." Deirdre winked and grinned at the both of them.
Pierre's eyes flicked between the two girls as a grin spread across his face. "I can see where this is going, and it is something that does not require my presence! But really, I am feeling much better. Thank you for going to see Delilah, Renee," he said, sitting up and kissing her cheek. "It really means a lot to me. And thank you for always being here for me, Deirdre." He kissed her cheek as well, then took their hands in his for a moment. "I will leave you two to enjoy each other, and entertain myself with Evey or Slink," he smiled. "I love you."
He kissed them both one more time, gave them a wink, and headed out of the room much more optimistically than he had entered it.
She had Pierre in tow as she stepped into her and Deirdre's room. Pierre hadn't seemed sure why whatever Renee had to say concerned Deirdre directly, but he certainly wasn't opposed to her being there. Far from it. It gave him a feeling of foreboding, though.
