The room smelled like stale cigarettes, the stench clinging to everything around her. Deirdre was seated at the foot of the small bed, leaning forward with her arms wrapped tightly around her waist. Her red hair fell forward in waves, surrounding her face like an amber cocoon. She knew he would come. All she had to do was wait.

The darkness of the room faded as dim, morning light streamed in through the heavy, orange curtains. And Deirdre waited, silent and still. He would come for her. He always had, and he always would.

As much as he loved his wife and his family and every single one of his friends, sometimes the only person in the world who Peter could stand to be around was Thomas. It wasn't a matter of not loving anyone as much as he loved his best friend. It was simply that Thomas knew Peter inside and out. The man had been beside him through everything. Peter didn't have to be anyone for Thomas. He didn't have to act the hero. He could just be Peter.

Thomas always knows )

Spiders were one of the things Peter feared most. He felt ridiculous admitting that, considering some of the things he had been through, but it remained a fact either way. Deep down beneath the Vatican, he had encountered several spiders and whenever he dreamt of that horrible place, the spiders were always there in his dreams, lurking in dark corners, waiting.

What is this bullshit?! )

Peter Kemp was sitting behind his desk when Patrick stuck his head around the corner and interrupted whatever work he was doing at the time. Patrick would never know Peter was, in fact, doodling stick figures of Rolf killing the Templar because he had run out of steam on his PhD. It was probably for the best, as it would have shattered Patrick's illusions of Peter as some wise, genius, crazy man who saved people. Patrick didn't need to know he was a doodler too.

Noah was sick.

Peter had fallen asleep in his office, which was pretty usual behaviour for him. He never really slept fitfully anyway, and so he spent hours pouring over manuscripts and patient files until he dozed off, face down in his busy work.

Ouch )

Peter was sitting behind his monstrous desk, growling at his computer while he edited his thesis. He was in the final stretch and the entire thing was giving him a headache. It didn't help that dear little Astrid, someone who had visions like himself, now had the same kind of tumour he had had twice. At least he was immortal. Poor Astrid was not, and she was only twenty. It broke his heart to think about.

This post is pure silliness, despite the beginning... )

With the memory of last night still replaying happily in his mind, Peter rises from his bed and, after finding something suitable to wear so he doesn't permanently scar any of his children who might be up by now, he leaves the bedroom in search of breakfast. The house is still quiet, which these days means that Lydia and Anna are still asleep. At fifteen and thirteen, the sisters who were once close now spend most of their time fighting. Loudly.

It has been a long day. Peter has welcomed a new person to his hospital and he has spent time with Deirdre who needed his presence in the wake of her pain over the disintegration of her marriage after only four hours. He has broken up a fight between his two oldest daughters over something ridiculous like lip gloss. Peter will never understand girls, but he loves them and being firm and disciplinary is hard.

Patrick had been in this hospital for two days and it was already overwhelming. The things he had suffered at the hands of that Jesus Cult (The Templar is what they had been called) was bad enough. But being rescued by some gigantic man and told that there were things in the world called demons and angels but they weren't demons and angels from God because no one knew for sure whether God existed or not had been just more information for a brain already weighted down from torture.

Welcome home, Patrick )
