Renee had been meticulous in her planning. There would be nothing to go wrong. It was foolproof. All was within her power.
Spread before her were the names and addresses of over half a dozen restaurants, all of them of different ethnicities. Italian, French, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian, Thai... she had no idea what Scarlett would actually want, so had just tried to find examples of every kind of restaurant available that was within her price range. And given that she hadn't even touched her latest payment from the bookshop, that was quite a bit.
The movie, at least, was a little bit more predictable. Scarlett wanted to see a girly movie, the irony of which brought Renee great pleasure. Two Metal girls in some... chick flick, or whatever they called them. Casanova seemed like the best bet, though there was always Tristan & Isolde.
Hopefully Scarlett would want to stay here for the night. Or let Renee stay at her place. Renee really needed to tell Scarlett everything about what had happened that night at Deirdre's... the night with Jack. Escapism was well and good, but she needed to get it out sooner or later, and really, it was only fair that Scarlett should know.
Renee just happened to be glancing out the window as Scarlett was stepping up to their front door. She bounded downstairs with a huge grin on her face, flung the door wide open and wrapped Scarlett in a tight embrace.
"Hello, gorgeous."
Scarlett beamed at Renee when she finally let her go. "Hello, darling!" She kissed her cheek "You look lovely." She walked into the house.
No matter how much time she was spending with Renee recently she still found herself being careful. Perhaps even more careful than she used to be. It was becoming clear to her where she stood with her feelings for Renee: She wanted her. Badly. She loved her. But until she was sure that was the right move and until Renee seemed completly steady, Scarlett was not going to make any move on it.
She'd dressed herself tonight for their 'girly movie', discarding her leathers and bad girl gear for a white dress much like the one Renee had seen her in that first day they meet. But this one wasn't wet and also fitted her far better. She'd even gone so far as to braid a few flowers into her hair.
"Alright," she asked the brunette. "What is the plan?"
"Well," Renee said with a smile, "I didn't know what kind of food you would like tonight, so I found all the different types of restaurant I could..." She blushed a little. She just wanted this night to be perfect.
At that moment, Renee's father wandered through the room, his face buried in a book. "Hello Deirdre," he said without looking up.
"Father!"
This time, Remy did look up, an expression of What did I do?! on his face.
"Wh- Oh," he said, actually looking at Scarlett for the first time. Red hair, girl, Deirdre. It had seemed a reasonable assumption...
"Father, this is Scarlett," Renee introduced the other girl. "Scar, meet my father, Remy. He gets very engrossed in his work," she said with a pointed glance to his book.
Scarlett smiled warmly at Renee's father. "It's very nice to meet you, Mr Baudrillard. Renee has told me only good things," she assured him.
"Oh, well in that case you oughtn't believe a word of it," Remy smiled good-humouredly. He stood there for a moment, not quite sure what to say. Renee raised an eyebrow at him.
"Well, I'll leave you to it," he said, and departed once more for his study.
Renee rolled her eyes, but was smiling nevertheless. He was a good man, really. He could just stand to pay a little more attention to what was going on around him.
