She was attempting to cook.
Again.
This time though, she was insistant on the fact that she wasn't going to burn anything. People cooked all the time: it couldn't be that hard! She still didn't have a handle on the 'not making a mess' part of cooking. Or the cooking part. Jude was sure she looked the part though. She even bought an apron for herself.
It was Fiona Apple she was playing as she danced around the kitchen getting her ingrediants and peering at the cookbook and she almost didn't hear the knock over the music. Being the closest to the front door she shouted an 'I'll get it!' and pulled off her apron, wandering out to answer the door. She pulled it open and her smile immediatly fell, a rush of terror running through her and making her weak. She opened her mouth to try and speak but it came out as a stammer. "F-father."

She looked terrible, he noted. Pale and weak looking. Shaking. She clearly wasn't surviving well in the outside world. She wasn't speaking, just standing there in the doorway, hand slightly shaking on the door.
He wasn't sure what to say now that he was here and in front of her. Mostly he'd just wanted to see where she was. Just see her again. She was, after all, his only child.

"Boys" she muttered as she lifted various things of his until she finally found it. "HAH!" Deirdre looked up in triumph, and then realised no one was in the room. Deirdre stood and rushed towards them, pulling at his hands, trying to get him to release his hold on Jude's arm. "Let her GO!!" She didn't want to pull too hard. What if she hurt Jude by accident? But he sure as HELL wasn't getting her out of this house.
She gave up and let go, rushing around him to the door, which she stood in front of. "I SAID let her go." Her eyes flashed black for a instant. Had he noticed?

He had reached the end of his rope with this one. Who the hell did she think she was?? "This is about family! Judith is my daughter- SHUT UP!- and I'm taking her home." She was still screaming and pulling and acting so much like an animal caught in a trap. "So get the hell out of my way!"

As his voice rose, he voice grew quieter. Not a good sign. "Jude is more my family than she is yours. I am not moving. And if you don't let her the FUCK go, you won't be able to walk about of here."
Too bad she looked like a little akward defenseless Deirdre.

"Are you threatening me?" It would have been laughable if it wasn't so annoying. He pushed Jude aside and she hit the wall. He hadn't meant that to happen. He focused on the redhead. "Get out of my way. Don't dare interfere with my daughter and I. You have no idea."

Stupid fucker. Deirdre was torn between staying at the door and checking on her friend. She could kill him right here. She could rip his head off. She could do anything. He was the one that had no idea.
In the end, she leaned down to see to Jude, keeping one eye on her father. "Are you okay?"

Jude didn't say or do anything. She was looking up at her father with fearful eyes. She could barely even notice that Deirdre was nearby. "I won't go back," she told him, her voice falling over itself and hushed. "I won't. Don't make me go back with you. I don't want to."
Her father looked at her in silence and she couldn't read the expression on his face. But then his eyes flicked down, looking away from her and at anywhere else. "Alright," he said, sounding calmer. "Alright. If that's your choice." He still wouldn't look at her but he met the eye of the redhead. "This wasn't your place." His next words were to Jude but he didn't look in her direction. "I'll find you at Regents again."
And then he walked out of the house, leaving the front door wide open. Jude watched him walk away, not knowing what anything meant.

Deirdre breathed a sigh of relief, and then mumbled, "Not my place. Of course it's my bloody place. Stupid pain in the hole."
She turned to Jude and pushed a stray strand of the girl's hair out of her face, tucking it behind her ear. "I'm sorry."

Jude frowned at the other girl, realising she was there. "Why?" Her voice cracked as though she'd been crying. She tried to think if she had been or not. "Why are you sorry?"
She had been screaming. She remembered it suddenly. It was like she was all of a sudden coming back into her body. She was the one who needed to be sorry! "I-I was yelling," she looked around. Her home. Here. Safe...maybe. "I'm sorry. I- umm," she looked at Deirdre with apolagetic eyes.

"I'm sorry he came here. That's all. You don't have to apologise for HIM. Are you hurt?" She leaned in to hug her, but thought better of it, and offered Jude a hand up instead.

"Not hurt," she said, feeling a little lost as Deirdre pulled her up. "I, um, I was cooking," she told the other girl vaguly. "Left the oven on." She didn't feel like she was quite here anymore. She was clinging to Deirdre's hand and didn't want to have to let go. She felt dizzy and her arm burned from where her father had been gripping it.

Deirdre hugged Jude then, not caring if it were the right thing to do or not.
"We should probably turn that off. The oven. Unless you want to start again? Clean slate?"

Start again. Clean slate.
She let Deirdre hug her and then, when she pulled away, blinked at her. "Umm..." The oven was on in the kitchen. Should turn it off. Should. Clean Slate. She shook her head to clear her fuzzy thought. "Um, what?"

Deirdre sighed, wondering if she was helping or hindering. "If you want, I can take care of the kitchen. If you need to be alone. But if you want to start over with the cooking, I can help you. Or talk to you. Or watch you like a vouyer?"

She nodded softly. "Umm, can I just sit?" she asked the other girl quietly. And then, quickly, she grabbed Deirdre's wrist. "But with you? Please don't go away. My hands are shaking."

"I won't go anywhere." Without thinking, she reached for Jude's hands, and then tried to cover for it by rubbing her own hands together. She didn't know if she succeeded. She smiled at Jude nervously. She wanted to talk about what they could do about him 'finding her at Regents' but Jude was in no shape to talk about that now.
"I think..I think my hands are shaking too.."

She smiled a little at Deirdre. It wasn't a smile of happiness. More a smile of comradary. "I'm sorry he came here. I didn't know."

Jude smiled a little. "I thought that was what your puppies were for?" She was beginning to relax...at least a little more than she was. After a moment she sighed and walked back into the kitchen to sit down. She didn't seem to have the energy in her to stand up anymore.

Deirdre followed her, giggling. "My puppies will only accomplish this by snuggling something to death. They're soooo tiny!" She sat next to Jude and laughed. "Besides, they don't look like a 'killer' or a 'Spike'. Bertha maybe..."

"You cannot call a dog Bertha," she told Deirdre as she reached for her drink bottle across the table. "I had a dog once. His name was Atticus. Which isn't really a guard dog name either. My father got him for me as a reward for aceing all my classes in my first year at Regents." Thinking about her father made bits of her hurt and she sighed, leaning her head on Deirdre's shoulder. "I'm so tired."

"When I was younger I had a crush on Gregory Peck and I watched To Kill a Mockingbird over and over again, even though I didn't necessarily understand the concept, not being American. Didn't matter. I just loved the way he talked, you know." Deirdre absentmindedly leaned her head against Jude's and relaxed.
