"Guh!" Lee exclaimed, jolting himself out of sleep and into a sitting position with dizzying speed. "Shit. Ahem." he added under his breath, when he remembered where he was. He'd been dreaming about fire surrounding him, above, below, the world collapsing around him. Shaking off the clinging feeling of horror, he got out of bed and pulled open the curtains to a grey sky and the constant roar of traffic from the city, all around. He unhooked the window and pushed it open, relaxing a little more as the chill of the morning air (far smokier than he was ever used to) reached in and touched his face, his bare chest. It can't have been an hour after dawn, which was a bit of a sleep in for him, so he dressed and made his way through the house to see if anyone was up yet. Finding a stillness that definitely wasn't present in the house last night, when there was a red headed menace zooming round the house and a boy with ridiculously long hair singing something in old English in the shower, Lee decided to go for a run to explore the neighbourhood until someone woke up.
He left a note on the fridge incase they were the sort to worry: adbucted by space monkeys, back once I'd become their King, and set out at a jog down the road.
As was almost always the case, Jude was awake in the house before anyone else. She enjoyed this very early mornings where the sun wasn't even really risen yet and she could sit on the front step of the house, hearing pre-dawn birds with a strong mug of black coffee. Drink of the gods, that was.
When she was done she left her coffee mug on the step at her feet, pushing it against the wall so it wouldn't get kicked, and did up the buttons on her coat before setting off for a walk. London was always so nice at this hour.
She'd been walking for about 15 minutes when she spotted a very tall and familliar boy. She was trying, as the two walked toward each other, to place where she knew him from.
"Hullo Jude!" called Lee when she was close enough to hear. He could spot that hair a mile away. Well, maybe not a mile. It was hard to see for a straight mile in London: there were too many corners. Unles it was a straight up mile, and there was little reason for Jude to be a mile in the air... "Or should that be 'hey Jude', unless it shouldn't be because you've heard it so many times that you want to poke out the eyes of the next person who says it, and so I shall stop talking."
Right. Lee. Tall. Bouncy. Friend of Evey and Deirdre's.
Jude cocked her head at his slight rambling. "Do you always babble like this or is it just when you walking at this hour?" It was said without any trace of Jude's venom, so she meant well. Jude liked to think that people could tell when she was being nasty or not. "And, yes, I've heard the 'hey Jude' line only about a million times. But not in the last week or so." she thought for a moment. "No, wait, I lie. A photographer on Wednesday made it. So what are you doing walking around at this hour?"
"Exploring," Lee said, toning himself down a wee bit for Jude's sake. "And I do tend to babble, sorry 'bout that. And you? I mean, not do you babble but what are you doing out here this early?"
"Exploring is good. And you're in the nice safe parts on London around here." there may have been a slight sound of dissapointment in Jude's voice that she was in that part of London herself. "Me? I'm out walking. There's no one to bother me at this hour and I like the smell in the air."
"Mmm, car fumes." Lee agreed, putting his hands in his pockets for warmth. "Shall I stop bothering you or are you in the mood for company? I was going to hunt out a breakfast place in a few minutes if you'd like to join me for that? Or if you'd rather you could just carry on your merry way."
Jude looked around the morning streets. "There's a place that does nice omlettes and bacon not far from here," was her answer.
Lee grinned. That wasn't exactly an answer but it was hopeful. "What do you say, can I buy you breakfast?"
This boy obviously didn't know how London worked yet. Or Jude for that matter. "No, I'm buying."
