The week had rushed past Jude and now that she had time to breathe for herself she barely knew what to do with it. She'd become used to people pulling at her hair and applying makeup and telling her how to stand and what to feel and now she was just...Jude. She wasn't quite sure what to do with Jude.
After all, Jude wasn't the most wonderful of people. Jude had blocked out those who showed any signs of caring. She thought, just maybe, that she had been getting better. Getting stronger. But she could see now she was wrong about that.
She stood where she was, cold air seeping into her, and pulled her phone from her pocket, still watching straight ahead. The air escaping her lips was white and it took a handful of rings before the phone was answered on Slink's end.
"I'm outside my father's house," she told the other girl, eyes still on the lit up windows in front of her. She stood numbly on the grass outside and closed her eyes. "Give me a reason not to go in." The please on the end was unspoken but it was obvious in her voice anyway.

"You're outside your father's house." Stephie repeated in disbelief.

Jude squeezed her eyes shut and then opened them again, fixing her gaze on the house. Her voice sounded mostly together. "Tell me why I shouldn't go in there?" Please give me a reason.

Stephie's hand gripped the phone so hard it hurt. A jolt of anger flashed through her- this was cruel, this was utterly cruel of Jude to catch her off gaurd like this and demand a reason not to jump right into her own grave and how dare she put this kind of pressure on her?
But part of Stephie knew she couldn't- absolutely could not let Jude know that she was angry right now because that would push her away, towards her father and towards her own end and Stephie couldn't let that happen.
Stephie raised her eyes to the house across the street, the one she'd been standing in front of for the past half hour, then got on her board and started putting her foot down. "Do- do you want the long answer or the short one?"

Jude swallowed. She was gripping her phone hard too, using it as a lifeline she wasn't sure was working. "Better give me both."
