Who he is (Peter, Family, Amaris)
Helping Caleb with his maths homework was generally a tedious time because Caleb hated it so much, and almost any interruption would have been welcomed. But when the alarm for the Kemp House perimeter went off, Peter thought that 'any interruption' might need to be re-evaluated. They weren't expecting anyone. Anyone who was welcome on the property knew the code to bypass the system. Trouble was on it's way and when Anna turned to Peter with fear in her eyes and said simply, "Daddy...demon...bad..." Peter was on his shaky feet in an instant.
Instead of cowering in a corner in fear as had been his trend lately, it was as if the alarm was what Peter needed to remember who he was. He was Peter fucking Kemp. He'd survived the Templars and demon attacks and even gone on to save his demon attackers. This, he would not cower from. He would take charge and protect his family. "Aly. Ring Rosa and get her here." He said, knowing that the alarm rang Rolf's mobile anyway, but demon strength would be helpful as well. "Tasha, here..." He scooped Thomas out of the playpen and handed his eldest daughter his youngest son and then his car keys. "Take the kids down to the basement and if you hear anything, take them out the back to my car. Go to Liz's. Go!" Everyone sprang in to action and Peter made his way outside to head the demon off, ignoring his protesting muscles.
Amaris heard the alarm and she caught sight of Peter as he exited his house. If he was ready for her, then this situation would be different than it had been at David's. She had lost the element of surprise. She was already carrying a baby and a grown woman. Without being able to sneak up on them, accomplishing anything here beyond instilling fear was going to be impossible. David had been right after all. So instead of staying, she swooped low and then flew away, laughing. Peter's stomach froze when he caught sight of Amaris the demon and the redhead in Amaris' arms. He couldn't be sure, but she looked familiar... Oh how he hoped he was wrong.
Peter moved back inside the house and up the stairs with difficulty. "Aly!" He ran into the bedroom where he found her holding the phone, her face white and stony. "Aly, it was Amaris!! She's a demon!"
"I know. Thomas...Thomas rang. She has him..and uhm...the line went dead."
Peter closed his eyes and forced himself to remain calm. "Alright. Is Rosa coming?"
Aly nodded. "Thomas said to get Mary."
Peter nodded. "Yes, that's...a good idea." He tried so say the next thing as calmly as possible. "Aly...we need to ring David's house."
Aly looked terrified. "W..why?"
Peter just took the phone from her gently and he moved over to the bed to sit down because he couldn't stand up anymore. He dialled David's number with trembling fingers and a feeling of dread in the pit of his stomach. And as he waited, he silently prayed. For the first time in 14 years, Peter Kemp prayed.
