Ice cream (Daria, Noah)

Every outing with Phoebe and Cassandra was a mission, but a mission Daria and Noah faced head on, without fear or faltering! Well, usually without fear. Well, not a lot of fear. They were adults, goddammit, and surely two adults could keep control over two two-and-a-half-year old twins at least most of the time.

Today they were out hunting. They’d successfully ran down a couple of new sets of clothes and shoes for the girls, who were definitely starting to catch up with their growth spurts. They’d stocked up on cough syrup for Phoebe’s reoccurring cold, and, the biggest mission of all, they’d successfully completed a complete circuit of the supermarket without anyone starting to cry.

Daria was so seriously on top of this motherhood business!

But she definitely needed a sugar hit. “Hey Noah,” she said, eyeing up the ice cream stand in the middle of the food court. “You’ve been so well behaved today, I think I should buy you an ice cream.”

"We can do the wedding whenever and however you want," he said quickly. "And I can drop back to working part time if it helps so you can keep doing uni if you want to." It was a nice feeling, not having to worry about money.

"Or I could head back to school with Deirdre this year," Daria said, listening to herself as she said it, to see how it sounded out loud. "I could finish my degree, and think about more kids later. I could..." she wondered aloud. "Do I want that?"

"You could," Noah said, nodding along. If that's what Daria wanted to do, he would absolutely go along with it. This pregnancy hadn't been planned and like hell he was going to try tell her what to do with her body, especially after what had happened with the twins. He had a feeling, though, she wouldn't have let him get away with it, even if he tried, and he loved that. He loved her.

"Deirdre would be fun to study with, though I have a feeling she is very serious about taking notes."

Daria chewed on her lip like all the answers she was looking for were contained within. "I dunno," she said. "I don't know. I do like the idea... a little us. And... if I did have another baby, the twins would be three by the time it was born. That's a pretty nice age gap."

"You don't have to decide today," he reminded her, running his hand up and down her arm. "A little us would be wonderful, and three years is a great age gap. But we have time, and four years or five is fine too. We can think about it for a little while if you want."

Daria nodded and looped her arms around his neck. "We have time," she echoed him, smiling at his wonderful face. Even the fact that she was part of a we this time, and didn't have to make the decision on her own, made her feel amazingly happy. Relieved and comforted and happy. But there were a million reasons to love Noah; this was just one of them.

Secretly, to herself, she kind of suspected she'd made up her mind already, but she didn't want to say that out loud. Not quite yet.
