I can feel the darkness under you - Jillian, Yvonne, Daniel
Whenever Yvonne was alone in a room with Jillian, she always thought she could snap my neck right now before the protocols even had a chance to kick in. It wasn't a comforting thought, but there it always lingered. Standing close enough to the murderous demon to hear her breathing, Yvonne reminded herself that people deserved second chances - that that she actually believed that in most cases in this hospital.
Sometimes Yvonne thought about Cinders and the hospital around her went deeply Silent Hill and she had to pause wherever she was and take a few deep breaths to calm down. She couldn't work in the hospital and harbour her vengeful thoughts about killing Cinders, and so she had to choose. She chose work. And so Yvonne closed her eyes and when she opened them again, the hospital was light and alive.
For Jillian it was different. For Jillian there were whole days that past by where she saw nothing of the hospital but a burned out shell; saw nothing of the other residents but dark flickers at the corners of her vision. Whole days moved past her in that place of ruin where she thought fondly of the ways that she would kill everyone she knew. With desirous sighs she imagined her fingers pressing through organs, her hands breaking bones, her teeth severing tendons.
Jillian, on some days, wanted to feel that pain from others more than anything else she could even imagine. And on those days she stumblingly found what she thought was her room - so hard to tell when the hospital looked nothing like the hospital - and there she lay herself down to sleep on a rotting away bed in a rotting away room, and often in morning light the walls reformed themselves and the voices of humanity crept back in.
Had she come here for redemption, or was this simply an act of boredom on her part? Maybe she was getting bored with this now though.
But there were things she didn't hate here: first, there was Daniel, who was warm and hard and interesting. To say that she loved him with a stretch, but she certainly liked him. She liked talking with him, and she liked fucking him.
Sometimes she liked him too much in all the wrong ways. Sometimes she wrapped her hands around his throat when she rode him and she smiled while he tried to pry her fingers lose.
Sometimes, this time, she had tried to kill him, she thought. And in the moment it had seemed right.
Which was why she now sat in her bedroom with Yvonne on the bed beside her, the human girl filling sample tubes with her blood. Jillian had apologised to Daniel and he seemed... well, she supposed he seemed alright, but when your lover tried to kill you it was hardly ideal.
Yvonne replaced the tube on the needle with a new one and said, "okay, two more and I'll have enough. Remember, you can still change your mind."
Jillian shook her head. "No. Do the tests. I want to do this."
Yvonne nodded but didn't really meet Jillian's eye. Jillian didn't quite blame the girl but was impressed by her professionalism.
A knock on her open door frame and Jillian raised her head and, upon seeing Daniel there, gave him a little smile. "Hi. I'm slightly indisposed."
Yvonne then added, writing on the side of one of the blood vials, "but only for another minute."
