Adrina smiled wryly and reminded him, "we're not dating." Because that right there was the difference and why she was able to tell him exactly what she wanted and needed. "You've seen me with my friends. You know I don't have any problems with telling them no. And you broke up with me and so... I can say no to you. You don't own me." Then realising how that sounded she held up a hand to silence any objection and corrected herself, "you're not acting like you own me, like I'm still a thing that belongs to you even when we're over." A tighter smile. "That's not how it ever went with Mac. I tried to end things with him more than once, but I he always still owned me. Even now, wherever he is, he probably thinks that. But you don't. You never treated me like that, but... it's still hard to separate romantic love from violence and ownership."
