Kay still hadn't stopped staring at Abby. She'd said Thomas's name, and Kay was trying to understand it. She let out a strangled sob and covered her mouth with her hand. Thomas had given himself up in exchange for them. And now Abby was... an angel? It confused Kay, her senses dimmed after days in the dark and the cold without any sleep or food. She practically carried Carla out to the door, and made sure to cover Carla's eyes so she couldn't see anything. Kay didn't look, except for one moment, and she wished she hadn't. She tried not to show that she'd seen Thomas, and instead cried silently as she worked her way through the place to exit as quickly as she could.
