A New Home - Jude
It was slowly that Jude packed things into the large bag on her bed. Her parents were out for the night and Jude was still 'grounded.' She'd not seen or heard from any of her friends since she'd stepped foot back into the house, paranoid that even nodding to Deirdre at school would cause her father's wrath. The behaviour she was expected to endure from her parents had gotton far worse but she had played her downtrodden and fearful daughter routine well. Probably helped that it wasn't too far from the reality. She was scared of him. No need to fake it that much.
But, unlike the girl in her little acting role, Jude wasn't staying here. She'd pulled all her trust fund money out of it's account so he couldn't take it away from her. She had packed almost everything she could fit into a bag and was ready to leave.
With a sigh she looked around the room and sat down on the bed, clutching a teddy bear to her. This was her home. She'd always lived in this room, with these things, and now she was going to walk away from it all. She didn't even know what she was going to do with school. Could she really just run away forever and still go to Regents? Maybe...Maybe this wasn't a good idea.
No, Jude, it's time to get out of here. Time to leave and never come back. Time to do something right for once.
Outside there was the honk of a horn and Jude knew it was the taxi she had called. With one more look around the room and at all the things she was leaving behind, she hoisted the dufflebag over her shoulder- flinching only a little at the small spark of pain it sent through her worn-out body- and pulled her bedroom door shut and walked down the stairs.
She locked the front door quietly and listened to her footsteps as she quickly walked down the garden path to the awaiting taxi. It would be nice to see Deirdre again. And Slink. It would be nice to find herself again as well. The last week had been too hard and now she just wanted to curl up somewhere and sleep without fear of someone pulling her away.
Time to find a new home, she thought as she slipped into the taxi and gave him Deirdre's address.
