Renee / Imogen / Scarlett - Aftermath - G
The tears were beginning to fall. But it didn't matter now. Deirdre couldn't see her. It was okay to feel the dreadful void in her heart, sucking at her core. What was there to fill it now? Scarlett. She and Deirdre were broken, could never be again. Scarlett. Kait was gone, kept from her by a tyrannical father who had torn them apart not once, but twice. Scarlett. With Jack far, far away, Scarlett was of course the only one left to turn to...
They were just sitting at a table under a tree (When had she gotten outside?), coffees and lunch before them. There was no maintaining a strong facade for Imogen. The best she could do was not break into a run as she approached, moving at a normal enough pace that they wouldn't necessarily notice her until...
Scarlett looked up, and it was done. Renee took the last few steps towards them, and collapsed to her knees, tears flowing freely, her arms thrown around Scarlett. What more could she do? What reason had she to be strong?
"Scarlett..." It was all she could get out between sobs...
"Well," Scarlett was saying to the blonde. "It's not that unusual to-" she looked up, something inturupting her thoughts, and saw Renee.
And then, before she knew what was happening, Renee was in her arms and sobbing. Scarlett pulled her closer, forgetting all about Imogen's presence and seeing only Renee. "Baby, what's wrong? What's happened??"
Renee sighed heavily, trying to regain her composure. As she breathed in again, the scent of Scarlett's hair filled her awareness. And everything shifted just a little bit in the direction of being okay again.
She rose from the ground and sat down next to Scarlett, her arms moving awkwardly about the other girl's body as she clung to her. After all that had passed between them, she was nowhere near as self-conscious about acting this way in front of her. Whatever barriers may have been left were far from being crossed in this simple embrace.
"Oh, Scarlett... it was Deirdre. Not like that," she added quickly, not wanting her to think it had been anything like their last confrontation. "It was just... she tried to apologise, and... Goddess, Scarlett, I thought I was past this!"
She glanced at Imogen and offered an apologetic smile. It was all she had to give to her for the moment.
Imogen figured that her talk to Scarlett about her interst in witchcraft was well over and she tried to give Renee a quick sympathetic smile. "I'll just leave you two to this," she told Scarlett and grabbed her bag from the table before scuttling off.
Renee opened her mouth to try to stop Imogen from leaving, but the girl was gone before she could get a word out.
"I'm sorry," she apologised to Scarlett. "I didn't mean to scare Imogen off like that. I just... needed you."
Scarlett shook her voice, the blonde already forgotton. "Never mine that," she pulled Renee closer and smoothed a hand through her dark hair. "It's alright, my Renee. I love you. I'll care for you."
My Renee. Yes, yes, yours entirely, yours to hold and to touch and to love, please Goddess let me be yours!
Renee lifted her hand to touch Scarlett's, her senses attuned to the slightest touch. Her hair was wrapped around Scarlett's fingers, slowly sliding over them. Scarlett's skin was so soft. Renee looked into her eyes, wishing to lose herself in them, for the love that lay there to wash over her and take away all pain... in these moments, it really did. In Scarlett's presence... nothing else mattered. Nobody would take this from her. Not Scarlett.
"Oh, Scar..." she sighed. "I love you too... so very much." She smiled, wanting to apologise again, but knowing it wasn't necessary. Scarlett was quite possibly the most forgiving person Renee had ever known.
"You... are amazing. Just being here with you... I already feel so much better." She lay her head on Scarlett's shoulder, drinking in the scent of her hair that she so loved. She sighed once more, this time in contentment. Still at school, of all places... and yet in this moment, she felt so very at home. Home...
