Bringing Justine home had had the welcome effect of keeping Brigitta to herself, and granting August a reprieve. That it had also gathered him further time with Justine was also a welcome side effect.

However, his reprieve did not last forever.

She was waiting for him when he came home from work, and she looked none too pleased to be doing it.

"I think you know what I want to talk to you about," she opened with.

"You didn't like me bringing Justine around here?" he said.

"Justine was fine. It's you that I keep having a problem with. Will you look at me when I'm talking to you?"

August turned around slowly.

Brigitta sighed. "You haven't listened to a thing I've said." She paused, and it seemed almost to pain her that she needed to say these things, yet obviously the alternative of not saying them had become worse. "I'm going to need you to move out. Pack your stuff. You can have a couple of weeks to organise yourself into a new place, but no more. I've had enough."

The finality of her tone punctuated it in a way that her words might have left open. This was no longer a discussion.
