It was just after midnight when Joe was awakened by Jordan, smacking him in the shoulder because shaking him hadn't worked. They'd had a nice dinner together, and then they'd watched NYPD Blue before Jordan had fallen asleep, practically in Joe's lap. But now she has been awakened by intense pain in her lower back. It wasn't alarming her at all. Instead, she was excited. "Mugh?!" Joe asked, looking up at her with his hair sticking to his face. "Jorderoo?"
"The baby's coming!" Jordan informed him and then she gasped as she felt the pain begin. Though it faded away quickly.
"Now?!" Joe squeaked. The threw the blankets off of himself, instantly awake. "The baby's coming now?! The crib isn't ready!"
"Honey, it's okay! We should get to the hospital." Jordan's voice was calm in the wake of Joe's frantic reaction to the news. She was just in the first stage of labour. It was going to be awhile yet. But because she was older, the doctor had recommended that she go to the hospital at the first signs of labour, rather than waiting until she was more progressed. "Do you have my suitcase?"
"Closet!" Joe ran for it and he brought it to her immediately. "Here!"
"Joe, darling, it's going to be fine. Get some clothes on and I'll go tell Julian. I'll meet you downstairs in fifteen minutes. Don't fall down and break your neck on them, alright, I want someone to help me raise this little girl."
"Oh yes! Yes! I will not fall!" Joe rushed to his closet to search out something suitable to wear.
Fifteen minutes later, Joe joined Jordan at the bottom of the stairs, looking like he'd dressed in the dark. Which wasn't completely untrue. Jordan smile and she took his hand. "Julian and Damon will come by after school." Hopefully by then there would be a baby. Or they'd be closer to one. "I love you, Joe."
"Dear god I love you too." And then Joe ushered her out the door, frantic to get her where she needed to be. Everything had to be perfect.
